Bed storage cubby door, will this be a common stolen item?

I'm curious if the bed storage cubby built into the rear passenger side of the bed locks or not? All of the videos show it twist to open and then the door isn't hinged, but is removed easily... I hope that it locks or I will be worried that without a locking bed cover these doors will disappear all too easily via the Walmart parking lot five finger discount.

It does not lock. I'm hoping that the aftermarket brings a lockable replacement door, though, to be honest, I'm sure it could just be pried out if a thief really wants in. Locks tend to only keep honest people honest.

Its cheap plastic with literally no resale value. I'd be more concerned with what is inside of it than the door.

People will steal crap just to steal it, then toss it in the trash... those types don't care about the value, they're just doing it to cause someone else to have a bad day.

I plan on keeping a rattlesnake in mine! ;)
Like that Flash Gordon movie when they had to place their arm inside a tree trunk with a monster inside! Kinda like Russian roulette!

I wonder if they will slash all your tires once they realize how easy that is to do? Or throw rocks through your windows? Scratch their key down the side of the door panels? This is a ridiculous conversation.

My 2019 Tacoma has a very similar cubby, plastic twist lock, easily accessible. I keep 3 smaller ratchet straps in there and haven't had an issue yet, and that's without any bed cover. I guess someone could just walk away with the little cubby door if they wanted, but I'd expect my bed mat to be stolen first.

I ordered the hard tri-fold cover on the Maverick, so, should be tad bit more secure when I have that closed, not that I'm worried about anything I'd really keep in that little storage cubby. Same for the cubby door.

I'm sure Ford or aftermarket will have that covered in a short time for those that want a little extra security of the door and any contents.

Then stop participating (such as it is).

Edit: just realized your username "slashy42" and slashing tires...

Apparently slashing tires isn't all that easy for some!

Not sure how it's ridiculous, or even what point you're trying to make with your comment. Maybe sarcasm?

People will literally do all of the things that you mentioned to be douchebags and, like Spiff said, to cause people to have a bad day. Am I greatly worried that someone will break into the cubby area, not really. But if a decently priced, lockable solution presented itself I'd pick it up to add some peace of mind. I also don't plan to store anything back there that I couldn't live without; lock or no.

I agree with Slashy. Its a $10 part (probably). A drunk teenager might take it off and throw it. If that happens to yours, first look around the permiter of your truck -75 feet in all directions. You'll find it.

My point was that worrying about a cheap piece of plastic is silly, as I said before, I'd be more concerned about what's inside, even then it's probably not a major concern. The most I'd keep there is some rope or straps. All those other things I mentioned are also probably far more likely to happen, as most people would probably have no idea the bed cubby even exist.

Not so much worried about the cheap plastic cubby cover. I'll probably take the hybrid badging off mine though as catalytic converter thefts are a big problem in my area.

I think all new ICE vehicles have a catalytic converter, whether hybrid or not? Obviously a full EV would not.
