So weird question here but bear with me for a second. The Maverick is my first truck and I'm not used to an open bed. I'm used to a car or SUV where it can be locked up tight. Have you ever had your bed storage cubby cover/plate stolen?

I live in a rural area and don't have to worry about that but sometimes I head into the city for a costco run or a doctors appointment and there are people who will take anything thats not tied down, and that cubby doesn't lock so it can be a target for the right person. What they'd do with it, I don't know.

Again, stupid concern, I know. I'm just looking at the possibilities.

I opted for a hard trifold tonneau cover. Got it through Amazon in 24 like $360 if memory is correct. Took about 15 to 20 minutes install, now it's 5 minutes if I have to remove it for cargo. Usually just opening it up is enough most times.

The biggest advantage is not having to shovel snow. Also keeping most things dry inside and keeping things from flying out of the bed (grocery bags).

This way it increases the trucks versatility offering a trunk when needed and a bed when needed. It also offers me to keep a 4 way, small floor jack, and several receivers to accommodate different height trailers and different size balls. I think there is a couple pipe wrenches as well. Just in case I have to switch the ball off to the right height receiver. So if I was worried it wouldn't be for the cover plate.

For me not having to shovel snow out of the bed when I need it was a huge reason for the Tonneau cover. Even if you keep it in a garage if you are out and about you will still get snow in the bed. Nature of the beast but I wouldn't give up having a truck. It's like a Swiss army knife you never know when you will need it. Hope you enjoy your truck and it's uses.

I have a hard tri-fold tonneau, but I also have keyed locks on my cubbies.

These will easily convert the covers to keyed locks. You need the 5/8" ones: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CH2PGM3V

I never have had anyone tamper with mine. And I live in one if the big cities Trump likes to throw shade on often.

That said, I keep a quart of oil, a can of fix-a-flat, a plastic funnel, a rag, and a bungee cord in mine. Nothing I would be heartbroken over should it go missing. Coming up on 4 years. But some of that time I did/do use a topper. So more like it had exposure half that time.

I have a hard cover RevolverX4S roll up from RealTruck. It was fairly expensive but I got a discount by being a member of MTC. Just like anything else, it's gone up in price quite a bit since I bought it 3 years ago. It locks with the tailgate closed so there is no access to the cable release that is used to roll it up. I like it because it is easy to roll up and it does not block the view from the rear window. Now it's not going to stop the very determined crooks from gaining access to the bed but it will take quite an effort. But I don't store any valuables back there anyway so they would be very disappointed if they did.

People are stealing the tail light assemblies off of Ford Lightning’s. I guess they are about $1000 each.
Better money than stealing the cat.
They'd have a helluva time finding the cat on a Lightning,,,,,

Hahaha, HRG

The cubby covers are pretty easy to replace the rotary knob with a keyed locking latch assembly - some are listed on eBay / amazon. The covers are still just made out of plastic though. I tried the combination lock one but in dim light the dial is very hard to see .

I have had my 2022 for over three and half years now.
I did NOT have a tonneau cover for the first year and a half.
Never had a issue.
I do keep my spare bungee cords and other tie-downs.
I would assume most persons don't even know it's there. 🤔

Worry less, drive more.
Living in the suburbs of Houston I never had an issue. Shouldn't keep anything valuable in there anyways. Mainly straps, bungees etc.
But eventually I will be getting a trifold tonneau cover as well to keep larger items protected. Mainly when we go on a road trip.

I have a cap on mine so not an issue at all. I often lock the cap too even with nothing in it. I'm paranoid 🤷‍♂️ although I've been to places, games, concerts, etc where people have been caught jumping on soft tonneau covers, pissing on them and sleeping in the beds of trucks so I lock it up 🔑
