Hey all,

My Mav is about 3 weeks new and I noticed a big water leak where the edge of the seal meets the tail gate. Is this normal? It's a Ford factory trifold install. I'm not talking about some dripping, I'm taking about a significant amount of water penetrating into the box.
Anyone else having this problem?
Suggestions?

Thanks

soft or hard tri-fold? pics would be useful, but I own the Ford soft tri-fold tonneau cover (actually, I'm selling it :D) and never had an issue like this. everything I'm about to say is not applicable to a hard tri-fold.

with the soft, it's very possible to install it incorrectly and have it too far forward, rear, left or right. If you have a combination of too far forward and too far to one side, I could see that causing a major leak as the gaskets don't line up on the tailgate.

it would take you at most 10 minutes to loosen the clamps at the front, ensure it's on straight, and tighten it back down. (edit) one tip I definitely have is that it should NOT be flush against the rear glass. if it is, that's too far forward and you'll have seal problems on both front and rear. there should be a gap between the end of the tonneau cover and the rear glass. this isn't the best pic (because that's not what I was trying to demonstrate) but you can kinda see it here.

I have the factory trifold and have driven in a few downpours lately and I have had zero issues with leaks.

I have the factory tri fold. The only leaking comes through the car wash. I’ve put down weather strips in the right and left corners. Now it’s minimal.

Agreed. Two years, many downpours and innumerable car washes and details. Some very minor intrusion easily dabbed up with a small cloth. Would l put something in the 4 corners that l would worry about being colorfast, likely no, just because these covers are not "waterproof". However, it's light.

Everyone saying "factory tri-fold" there's both a hard and a soft tri-fold.

as I noted, yes.

the Ford hard tri-fold is a bak mx4 and I've never owned one or even inspected one closely in person, but it could be installed incorrectly as well.

I wish they would have made the BakFlip MX4 about 1/2" longer, it's hard to get a good seal on both the front and tailgate. With my Elevate TS rails adding a little height, I added a strip of weatherstripping on the tailgate.

So should I take it in for a fix? It cost me enough...
