I haven't heard from the insurance company yet, i just noticed that the repair estimate was on the website. Don't know if that necessarily means that it will for sure be fixed or not.

google tells me the threshold for totaling a vehicle in Georgia is 75% of the actual cash value. since it's brand-new, I think we can use msrp safely enough.

that would mean a much higher estimate to repair, at least 10k more. I'd probably start looking into diminished value. I assume that would be added to the repair total but it's a good thing to be informed about and how others in your state have dealt with it successfully.

As OP mentioned, definitely go after Diminished Value, if it's not payed off. That'll be a nice check to send in on the new truck loan.

I saw the 75% threshold as well, but isn’t that just the point where the law states that it must be totaled? Meaning, the insurance company could still decide to total it below the 75%? Anyway, the adjuster that actually looked at my vehicle said that it hadn’t been pulled apart yet and he basically had to estimate based on what he could see as it sits with no doors/panels removed. Said he expects additional supplements to be added once the shop digs into it.

I just got my 24 back today. Hit a deer on December 7, 2024 (a day that will live infamy). It was drivable, though with one headlight out. Fender, hood, bumper cover, door skin, core support and a lot of smaller odds and ends.

Repair was $12,000. I was so fortunate - I changed my insurance several months ago after a friend had a break-in on her car that required more than window replacement. I got the rental car coverage added, $40 a day for 30 days. So glad I did - this was in the shop for 21 days.

Anyway, a lot of sheet metal damage to mine, and looks like yours also. My front subframe structure was untouched, no air bags. If your structure is sound, you're going to be Ok. Well, your Mav is anyway.

Another fun update. The initial estimate of $16,500 went to over $17,000 within a couple hours of the adjuster calling me. I went to the shop this morning to grab a few things i had forgotten in the truck and the shop owner laughed and said the adjuster was way short on his first estimate. He expects it to be closer to $25,000 or more once they start tearing the truck apart.

That's pretty much how it is with body shops.... they almost always find more damage than meets the eye initially. So sorry for your troubles....

Thank you. Honestly, i hope it's totaled. As much as i love it i don't think i want it back after having this much work done.

I always wonder, when that much work is being done, whether the strength of the vehicle is still the same. Good body men can make "look" original?
But what about the steel that isn't replaced, just pulled into the original position.

Exactly. That along with the paint/clearcoat never looking the same again bugs me. That’s my work so I notice any paint issues unfortunately

When I read $16,500, my reaction was, “no way. Not on this economy. Maybe 5 years ago, but not in 2025.” Seeing the revised $25k number, yeah, that makes way more sense and is in the ballpark of what I was expecting.

Yeah, the shop guy just laughed about how low the estimate was
