85 ft lbs on the two 18mm frame bolts. Tighten the one closer to the rear of the truck first then the other.

Great product.
I got at least 80 ft lbs but damn that's a tough location to apply a lot of torque!

The two other large bolts I tightened pretty tight but obviously not as much.

All of the smaller bolts, I similarly didn't go too crazy on. Everything but the frame bolts I hit with a little loctite just in case.

Definitely do not tighten everything on the plates down until you've managed to get every bolt started. I had to do quite a bit of finagling to get everything reasonably lined up. I'm not completely happy with that aspect but good enough.

my comments:

1) the instructions were pretty good. you can get by if you look at the diagrams carefully while laying on your back under the truck.
2) the small included wrench is actually useful in that the socket wall is thin enough to easily fit on the bolt heads where the two plates come together. it will also fit on the bolt you have to remove in step 1 even if it's covered in paint. my sockets and wrenches wouldn't go on that bolt for some reason.
3) the large wrench is nearly useless unless you are superman. not nearly enough leverage to remove the large bolts or retighten them.
4) I managed to do everything without detaching anything exhaust related although accessing the two frame bolts required utilizing multiple wrenches/sockets/extensions. it was tight without a ton of room to maneuver.
5) don't tighten anything fully until you get every bolt started. I managed to get things to fit but I had to make some fine adjustments so I could get every bolt in.
6) tightening the frame bolts to 85 lb-ft is tough laying on your back without a lot of space to fit a larger wrench but I pretty much got there. I kept wishing I had something to brace my feet against but I somehow made it work.

I think that's it. Decent product, would have been a much nicer install if I had the truck up on a lift and if my garage was heated!

I agree with your install as mine was similar. I was able to use 1/2 inch drive and socket on the large bolts. I put on a 18" extension, and after manually starting the bolts I could actually sit BEHIND the truck, reach under and tighten while sitting in the up position. Just barely, haha got long arms! I did slip a couple times, just had to keep everything centered and got it done! The previous information on NOT tightening the small bolts for the two pans is spot on. That extra wiggle room really helped out!

I can see why you put the weatherstripping on there. I'm not too concerned about it as my splash guards block most stuff but yeah.

One other thing I didn't like is the uncertainty about pinching a wire from the wiring that's right there between the truck and the plate. I think that bracket will hold the plate down enough to avoid this but I didn't like that I can't really see up there to know. I suppose maybe if I took out my storage cubby on that side I might be able to check it out. Not sure....

Area of concern circled in red.

Yes - very much a concern for me too. I was curious if that was a Lariat specific issue due to rear parking sensors but I did my best to kind of push/align it with the indent/gap between the two pieces of metal but like you just hopeful the bracket/hanger provides enough clearance.

I have had my tail lights out many times, but can't remember, but I think you might be able to see those wires from behind the tail lights. I do have a snake camera, maybe next time I have them out I'll give it a try. I also don't want to see any pinching of the wires!

It's not difficult to take out the plastic cubby or panel to have very good access to this area. I'm going to take mine out each spring and blast water down in there to wash out anything that's found its way around the shield.

Did not know the cubby access was that easy! Thanks for that information! Sounds much easier than the tail light route!

Hey everyone,

The Underbody Cavity Shield Covers are back in stock! We’ve just received 70 units, with more on the way.

Based on feedback from our first batch of customers, we’ve made improvements by replacing the bolts with longer ones and increasing the diameter of the holes that were difficult to install.

If you’ve been waiting, now is the time to grab yours! Buy directly via the link below, 15% discount exclusive for MTC.
https://www.amazon.com/promocode/A1FMP3P571KAJU

If it shows as out of stock, it means the items are currently being transferred to the Amazon warehouse, but this won’t affect your ability to purchase.

Also, customers who have already purchased without using the discount can contact me for a refund of the price difference.

Has anyone installed this after getting the dealer rust-proofing?

Just a note for those installing this kit. Despite tightening the frame bolts as much as I could (had to use my breaker bar because I couldn't get my torque wrench in there), I found them a bit lose when I checked them after a week's worth of driving. Recommend using some locktite on these bolts (they have thread-locker from the factory - just missed it when I first installed the kit)
