If you have mudflaps would this still help?
Yes, this shield will really block off the open area. I have mudflaps and this shield. Glad I was able to install it before salty road season here in northeast, OH. That open area could hold alot hardpacked, filthy, salty ice.

There aren't really mutiple spots back there to address. This shield covers "the" spot. It's not cheap but it's heavy duty and does the job really well. I got mudflaps because I like them for what they do at all four wheels like help stop stones from chipping the paint down low and help keep some of the slush build-up from catching hold etc. Not sure if you have had a first hand look at the area in question or not. I have an XL so no cubby storage at all and when I saw it it seemed cavernous. Sure, I got a mudflap but I knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted to cover it if I could. I started researching what others had done and thought about what I might come up with and lo and behold, my procrastination paid off and Mabett came out with this. Install this and never have to worry about double checking to make sure the zipties are holding LOL

I'm trying to use the search function here but did anyone determine the right torque spec for some of these bolts?

Honestly, torque specs aren't important and not really applicable to a part like this. Put some blue Locktite on the bolts and just tighten them down... not over tight, no need to be The Hulk, just snug them up then turn just a little more. There will be no heat cycling on a part like this and the Locktite will take care of possible loosening from vibration.

gotcha. fortunately I have some of that already so I can proceed. has anyone made a video of this install? I can't quite tell what I should be removing from the wiring harness in step one but maybe if I look more carefully at the bracket that is getting installed there I'll be able to sort it out. am I correct that the bolt removed in step one is painted? I hate to remove that thing unless it's the correct one.

found it! I have a hybrid but I assume this will be close enough...

eta: hmmmm... the order seems a little different here. and the wiring harness seems a little different.

okay, I think I can tell which part of the wiring harness needs to be removed. Have I circled the correct bolt from step 1? in the video this bolt/area is not painted but on my mav it is.

I've circled the two parts referenced above.

another general note is that my exhaust is just straight pipe in this area (no muffler).

My concern with removing this bolt is exposing unpainted metal. Do I need to do something to protect this area?

perhaps some CRC marine corrosion inhibitor? I happen to have some of that kicking around.
