Does anyone know why ford redesigned the whole intake/manifold for the 2025?

I’m still excited about my truck, just bummed a bit that I can’t go ahead and order the S&B Intake to have ready and waiting to put on when I receive my truck from the dealer.

after seeing pictures of the actual layout of engine, it’s not making a ton of sense for all the changes
No change in hp or torque so shouldn't matter.

Bam!!
Let me know if you want more. I gotta take advantage of that brand new engine bay look

Thank you for pictures. Pretty green color! Yep, the air intake different from my 23 EB model. But what I was hoping to see is the intake manifold with injectors mounted there. That way could confirm design change toward “dual” injectors…both direct ported and intake ported. It’s what Toyota et al mfrs doing to keep intake valves clean.

Enjoy the Mav!

Based on these pictures, can you confirm or deny the existence of dual injectors?

A third of the engine bay is empty. Hope you got a good discount. 😉

Pretty impressive packaging.

That reminds me….long ago Evinrude O/B motors had BIG covers over the V-4 engines. So OMC spent millions $ redesigning the engines n cover, resulted in smaller, more streamlined cover. And so much better. They did tuck and fit up, some technological changes of internal components, like ignition, to get that smaller cover.

I didn’t know there were doubts, they’ve existed. We designed this engine over 3 years ago with them. This engine platform was a total overhaul and a lot of work went into streamlining everything

Thank you for this info!!! Since August, there has been a big debate on this topic. The spec sheet from Ford (dated July 2024) says direct injection only. Also, a dealer's Ford rep did not know if the engine will be dual injection or just direct injection. Could you provide more info on this redesigned engine or point to some resources for more info?

Thank you for commenting on this topic!!

I don’t really have a ton of details to give myself. I’m sort of playing catch up on a lot of things. Also it’s not surprising that there has been a lack of clarity on things. This has been a very long standing issue both internally and customer facing at Ford.

I know EGR has been redesigned as well. It’s a hot sided system intended to reduce/eliminate the main failures long term of external devices.

If anyone wants to geek out more on dual injection technology, here's a good vid from Engineering Explained. On top of housekeeping of the valves, there's also more power and efficiency to be had when using both. They can even create multiple simultaneous zones of different air/fuel ratios inside the cylinder. Not sure how far Ford went with it, I would have expected they could squeeze out another few horsepower. Maybe they did and the torque curve is better, just not exposed at peak of the curve.

All I see when I see this is more boost and power lol.

Another main thing useful and I believe a focus for the design was to mitigate chances of LSPI which can definitely rear its head in something like a small turbocharged motor inside a truck doing truck things. We noticed this back in the Focus ST/RS days during low RPM and high load while when lugging the engine to pass without shifting.

Just a minor detail...
To play devils advocate, the intake didn’t technically need to change as the injectors are casting mounted but it did help reduce velocity losses by changing things around like they did. The new air intake path actually makes a lot more sense for efficiency. Charge temps are lower I believe now too, at least they were in testing.

It would be easy to see injectors, their physical appearance, fuel lines and electrical connections to them, for both the top of head direct units, and the intake manifold locale. Unless they are covered up by other parts of the engine. So far no word from either dealers or Ford if they indeed have 8 injectors.
Unless no concealment by Ford, Quite frankly, I gonna conclude nothing has change, these engines are direct injectors types…period.

And I not in shower…..
