Ford Falcon XG Longreach Outback Ute, 1995. A specialised version of the Falcon pickup designed for serious off-road and rural applications, with heavy-duty suspension, increased ground clearance (200mm), and a 126-litre long-range fuel tank. Powered by Ford Australia’s 4.0 OHC straight-6, it came with a unique Hydra-Trak limited-slip differential, a locally developed viscous coupling unit that improved traction of the rear-wheel-drive truck in slippery conditions. It was a marketing move to inject interest into the ageing XD-platform-based ute (dating from 1979).
