I got it because I'm paying damn near $40k for a truck that I intend to keep for a few years - I should be able to tow a little more than he smallest U-Haul trailers if I need it or move. Also it's a sub $800 option (and even less when you negotiate the total price of the car), copilot 360 was a must add on to me, and as far as Ford goes it's like the only reasonably priced option package they have.

Hi Folks,

I’m looking to buy the 2025 AWD Hybrid, but I’m hesitant about adding the 4K towing package.

I’m quite sure I’ll never need more than the standard 2,000-pound towing capacity versus the 4,000 pounds with the 4K package.

How does this impact resale value? Will it significantly affect the resale of the Maverick?

I’m also curious about the statistics—how many people actually add the 4K package on their AWD models? When I asked ChatGPT, it reported that only 9% to 12% do.

What do you think?
Packages always add value. That said its a trade off.. I pull less than 2000lbs(ive never even towed 1K maybe 400-600 tops) I never plan to tow more than 2K(im mid 50's and ive never towed more than 400-600 lbs..I have nothing new id tow, im not planning on getting anything new to tow.. a large kayak or Jon boat 12' or less is what id tow... even with trailer thats 400-600 lbs at best) So do I need a 4K package? No... would I have liked mine to have a hitch though and would I be happy with the 4K package? Sure...

I dont know how much more it would have cost me though id have to weigh the package added cost Vs just getting a local place to put on a tow hitch for me. I always WANT the hitch at a minimum.. I just dont tow anything heavy enough to warrant the extra cost of a package.. unless its of course less than me getting a hitch installed at a place like UHaul or local trailer place.

Didn't you order yours, or did you just get it off the lot? The $100 order cost for just the hitch is untouchable in the aftermarket. You should have at least had the hitch put on by the factory. The additional costs for the 4k is debatable, I think in your situation. If you want the added safety features of CP-360 and the heavier duty cooling features, etc then maybe the package was the way to go for you. Either way, it's really personal preference for you. You don't actually need the 4K ability and you need not think of it as adding resale value that you'll never see anyway.

Its a 23 I got it used and have had it about 2.5-3 weeks now I didnt let the fact it didnt have a hitch stop a good deal I figured id just add it later. I think to get one on the Subaru i had it was like $250-300 so figured same for this.. I will ask around and see but no reason it should be more.

And I agree its nice to have the package I just dont need it... 2K is more than I will ever need in the last 50.5 years ive not even need to tow over 600lbs tops... I can see all of a sudden needing that capability..

Gear ratio=worse mileage. The fx4 has its own set of improvements, not writing them out here because I don't care to do so. I reject most of the people on this form who preach about lariats, 4k tow, and hybrids. Those are all stupid wastes of money in my mind. I'm getting an xlt luxury fx4 for under 35k and calling it a day! This car will be 21 years newer than my current car, and SOMEHOW I never got in an accident without the magic copilot. Waste. Of. Money!
Waste of money until you take a 2000lb pop-up camper to Zion National Park or Mount Lemmon.... Or are a one car family and share the vehicle with your spouse who benefits from the safety features because like me, her driving skills are diminishing with age.

It's a bit presumptous to cast your needs on everyone else, and declare theirs a waste of money, no?

For the general population, yes it is. Few people would actually tow with this on a basis regular enough to warrant the costs. Plus, the car itself has all the required safety features (and then some) as compared to the '24, making the premium copilot nearly obsolete.

Absolutely add 4K tow package. Can't add it later.

I got my Mav because the guy who ordered bailed so it came with the 4k. I don’t plan on using it for any towing at all but if the need arises I’m happy I’m capable.

It not about the towing capacity . It's about the cooling capacity keeping everything cool and happy. To me it like a police package more than towing. And if I have to explain you wouldn't understand or care. :)

Why would you pay $35k for an xlt maverick? That’s a stupid waste of money, in my mind. You should just save the extra $10k and get an xl. Better yet, buy a used maverick and save even more.

XL is much better yes! That being said, heated seats are a requirement for my climate, as is the better climate system. Honestly a waste of money compared to the XL but I needed those. That being said, old Mavericks have that awful infotainment system, hence why I wouldn't even consider buying one.

Everyone hit all the pros and cons here pretty thoughouly.

I’ll add in one more thought. To me, the tow package is valuable in what options it gives me. For example, I rented a 17 foot camp trailer from RVshare. It was 3,000 lbs. if I didn’t have the towing package, that wouldn’t have been an option for me. Sure, you can risk it, and tow it anyways, but if something goes wrong, you’re likely to be found negligent; “failing to act with the care that a reasonable person would exercise in similar circumstances”.

Having towed multiple times with my Maverick and having to perform an emergency stop from freeway speeds with a 1,600 lb trailer with no trailer brakes, I can pretty confidently say that having the towing package and brake controller will make any trip with a larger trailer way less stressful.

Yes, the 2025 Ford Maverick has a different gear ratio when equipped with the 4K Tow Package, featuring a lower axle gear ratio compared to the standard model, typically going from a 3.63:1 ratio to a 3.81:1 ratio, allowing for better towing capability;.

Key points about the 4K tow package gear ratio:
  • Lower gear ratio:
The tow package includes a lower axle gear ratio, which provides more torque for towing heavier loads.

  • Improved towing capacity:
This lower gear ratio significantly increases the Maverick's towing capacity.
There is no mention of lower final drive ratio in the 4k towing package description for 2025 because all 2025 models get the same final drive ratio whether they have the 4k towing package or not. With that said, the 2025 base model drive ratio is lower than base the model 2024 models both in the hybrid and ecoboost.

30 years ago, yes, but not in 2025.
The base model 2025 hybrid has a 3.37 final drive ratio and gets an EPA rating 42 city, 33 highway.

The 2024 base model hybrid had a 2.91 final drive ratio and got an EPA rating of 42 city and 33 highway.
