Wireless Android Auto device

After a couple years my Motorola MA1 suddenly stopped working. Looks like that is a common issue and I don't know if I want to buy another one at $70 a pop. I tried a few other wireless AA devices off Amazon and they work but have trouble reliably connecting at start up each time....the MA1 did a great job at that.


Is there another wireless AA device anyone uses that works well that is cheaper than the MA1 or should I just get it again and understand that it is going to eventually fail again? The entertainment system on the Maverick seems to start up different every time and i don't know if this causes issues on the start up. Sometimes the radio turns on right away and sometimes it takes a minute.

May be a silly comment, my own early first use of Android Auto. I just connect wirelessly from my Samsung S23 and use Android Auto for navigation with Google Maps, streaming music from Pandora, audio books on Audible, and hands free phone calls. Phone is fully updated and the 2026 Maverick Tremor has Sync 4. I also have a 2017 F150 XL with base Sync 1 and it Bluetooth connects fine for entertainment streaming Audible and Pandora, this truck has no internal nav so I use a Garmin Drivesmart.

TLDR: No solution here.

It's frustrating that the Motorola MA1 is still the only proper after-market wireless AA adapters. We've also struggled with the unofficial adapters not performing reliably on my wife's vehicle.

Wireless AA / CarPlay was added with the Sync 4 system in the 2025 model year. This, along with push-button start for all trim levels are deceptively huge quality of life upgrades.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help the OP.

As said, early use and still learning, but the 2017 Sync 1 connects fine with my phone via Bluetooth, I stream all my music and audio that way in the 2017 F150. I even removed the AM/FM. The Tremor though is is my first use of AA.

I'm still using my original AAWireless from the kickstarter back in 2021. There were regular firmware updates but have since been abandoned with AAWireless Two.

I was using the Motorola which worked ok but ended up getting an AAWireless android auto which worked better for me. Still doesn't connect every time but I do the soft reset and it always connects after that.
I have an older version of the AAWireless. The new one went up in price.

In November of last year I bought one for $20 on Amazon, but it is no longer available. It has been flawless and actually better than the Motorola model, but I realize it could quit on me tomorrow. With it, I get the temporary onscreen warning that the USB device isn't recognized and to remove it, but so far no issues actually using it.. I'm pretty sure with any of these devices somebody in China knows where you are and what you are listening to, but no surprise there. I bought on of those wireless units from Amazon, and the Google Map would come up right away (before, in order to see the map I would have to connect via the wire), but my issue was I could never get to see music options. It was like this unit overrode the interface.
