For the Canuckle-heads and winter states, what have you found particularly good and/or bad about our Mavericks in winter.

My work truck is a SIerra and when I drive around in the winter the rear camera gets totally obscured. I have been pleasantly surprised to find that I can drive the Maverick all day, during active snowfall or warm melt days, and the camera stays almost completely clean. Is this by design or a happy accident?

It's my first winter with the Maverick so I'm still observing what it can and cannot do. What should I watch for?

Good,It goes pretty good in slippery mode on snow covered slick roads.

Bad, When the Warning light comes on for Pre Collision Assist. And then it pops up in the Instrument panel clean Pre Collision assist camera and it happens with just a little bit of ice on the windshield over top where the sensor is.

Even when my windshield is completely cleaned-off I regularly get messages about 5km into my commute that the windshield sensor is obscured so no auto high beams, no traffic collision, etc.

I have to drive with the MAX defrost on and the sun visors down for another 5km to get that stuff back.

Again - this is with a 100% clear windshield. It just randomly throws this crap like a code if it's below freezing here on PEI. Which of course has been most mornings since I picked the truck up once it got too bad to continue riding to work.

Not sure if it is winter/temp-related, but the other thing that "consistently" happens is the doors won't lock with the touch sensor on the handles about 1/3 of the time. I won't know if it is just a winter thing until, well, winter season is over. Could just be yet another bad design/implementation of tech on these things.

Pretty sure my phone connectivity (or rather lack of) issues will be year-round.

I have the OEM hard rolling tonneau that I'm hoping I can use again once it warms up.

I don't normally drive with the music very loud. That changed with this thing as I can't hear my self think sometimes over the wind noise. And my last vehicle was a Jeep JK, so...

So far my confidence in my Maverick is at the level of: if *ANY* other manufacturer brought out a competitive vehicle I would trade mine in day 1.

And you’ll get to enjoy twice the quirks and twice the problems I’d think.

Maybe so. But i expect problems in a new product.

What I dont expect is, several years into a product, so many problems. Especially not at these prices. $55k for a truck where *all* the electronics seemed to have been designed by a high school shop class?

Really?

This mornings commute is a perfect example. Windshield 100% clear. Has been for 3 days. Let the truck warm up 10-15 minutes before i left. Auto headlights dont work. Like clockwork, 5km into the drive i get all the notifications that the sensor is blocked, so MAX defrost with the visors down for 5km and the notification of the sensor failure goes away. But my auto headlights still aren't auto.

So, now ive driven with a.louder than i want hvac system screaming for 5 minutes and the stupid truck still doesnt work.

Im sorry i bought it and i would immediately trade it for anything - ANYTHING - else if it existed

To me it sounds like you have a faulty sensor/camera module. Mine only pops errors when the area at the top of the window has condensation, frost or snow on it.

Almost all modern cars have these problems sadly, way too much beta testing with customers these days. It used to be just a year one or two thing, now some of them never get fixed.

Make sure to keep the rear bumper clean. If packed snow or ice builds up on the rear bumper, you can damage the tail gate when opening it. Pay special attention to the extreme left and right edges that are harder to clean because they curve upwards.

Snow and ice also tends to build up between the hood and windshield, and frankly is a real PITA to clean out. I bought a windshield cover that extends out over the hood that helps with this issue, however don't close the little wing tabs in the doors as they instruct. You run the risk of creating a gap in the door seal, especially in really cold weather when the rubber seals aren't very flexible..

Does not make it acceptable, has already prevented me from upgrading my wife's vehicle with something newer. I am not buying into today's problems on any vehicle if they're not proven to be eliminated on the current model. Of course my ability to do this is only as good as any info available, but I'm doing my due diligence. Many reviews are really downplaying problem areas and I have to stay away from newly introduced models due to lack of info.

Agree completely. Unless I see signs of improvement in this area I won’t be getting a newer vehicle either, no point in rewarding manufactures for pumping out junk.

All of these 2021+ production vehicles seem littered with problems, much like some 2008-2011 vehicles, the biggest problem now being software. Automobile manufactures really need to rethink this area. If they are going to build tech centric vehicles, they need to work with tech companies and do it right. Right now a car can have chips from 10-15 different companies, with different software that they are clearly struggling to get working together properly.

Pros: This little truck seems to have been specially designed for winter. The transmission and AWD are incredibly effective on snow and ice. With good winter tires, this thing is a beast! The heating system is also very efficient, as are the heated front seats and steering wheel.

Cons: I can't think of anything significant to complain about at the moment. I have 350 km to cover this afternoon on black ice and snow, so if I find anything negative, I'll update my post tomorrow.

in rain, the blue oval hangs a big fat water drop in front of the camera.

The backup camera is always collecting snow/water and becomes mostly useless.
Mine works well, I wipe it clean when needed. It only takes a second.

I’ve owned Chevy, Ford, Ram trucks over the years and my Maverick replaced a F-250 Super Duty Harley Davidson edition. The Maverick has been the best truck I have owned. Hauls everything I have needed so far and averages 29.3 mpg over 23,000 miles with the ecoboost. Snow, ice, rain and extreme heat and handled it all like a champ. I have had few problems and only did the back up camera recall even though I never had it fail, and the taillight issue with the pop out problem that was on a service memo, that’s it. I love my Maverick, have a great dealer relationship that does an excellent job for me. I do my own normal maintenance now since I have a 10,000 lb lift and my own add ons which I have a bunch of them. It doesn’t get much better than that.

You need to see your dealer and give him a chance to fix your truck!
