I got the TPMS monitors from Costco where I bought the tires. They were a little more money then Amazon, but I thought if I ever have problems Costco is outstanding. The Costco rim’s weren’t much less than the OEM rims.

I’d just run the 18’s you got.

17 and 18 doesn’t automatically mean the speedo will be off. The height of the sidewall comes into play.
There a tire size comparers online that will show you the difference and any speedometer delta.

I understand your ‘concern’ about running nice wheels. I wanted a daily driver Mustang, for my main car back in 2010, but thought “not right to drive a Mustang in the winter”. Then decided, I wanted it, so it will have to be. I got Blizzaks and didn’t look back. I had kind of the opposite path from you. I bought a set of take-offs that matched my wheels, nice aluminum wheels, and put snows on those rims. Did they get trashed after 7 winters? Sure, but it was nice to have good looking rims all year long.

I’m sure you realize, to move them to new rims you have to pay for de-mounting, re-mounting, and balancing.

Then there is the TPMS. Putting them on the new rims.

Did I mention the new rims have TPMS already? THATS what kind of a deal this was.

Good thought process you had though...."just do it!"

I kind of figured they did.
Just like when I got my take-offs.
More reason to stick with what you got.

So, the conclusion update...until there's more of course:

Ended up getting a deal on some ford used rims, and then called a Mobile Tire Service to come over to complete this project:

remove winter tires from sexy rims
add summer tires to sexy rims
add winter tires to ford used rims
Swap sexy rims for takeoffs

245/60/18, no rubbing. So sexy.

So now, next thread will be "what to do with the XLT takeoffs.

Special thanks to So-Special Mobile Tire Services...great price, great service, on time! Came to my place, did their thing while my and my friend just hung out and applied Rain X and clear licence plate holders. Literally couldn't do this project without this company!

Nice. So as a complete noob, what should I be looking out for in terms of sizing for winter tires?

If you're sticking with 17s, you can get the same size or slightly smaller on the first number...takeoffs are 225 so 215 or 205 is ok...all depends on your snow and ice and temps in your area. Only real suggestion I have is to ensure they are on different winter rims so it's easier to swap out and you don't subject the takeoffs to salt and other crap.

So Final Update: Sadly, I put the XLT takeoffs on for sale...if you want in on them you can check out the buy/sell tires area on this forum or just message me directly. I priced them as similar as our amerifriends have.

After this: On to the next project (99% waterproofing of the trifold)
