I'm sorry and I'm not trying to be a dick here at all but is this the first new car you've purchased? Just about all of newer cars do this. It must have something to do with the aerodynamics. I got a new company car every two to three years, mostly SVUs because of carrying equipment. They ALL did that as does my Maverick. And no the deflectors don't help.

Yeah every other car I've had does it when you have just the driver's window down. Putting other windows down reduces it.

In cars, I bought over 64 cars in my life and can say I did have one model that did no buffeting. It was my Volvo P1800 2 door coupes. All 4 door cars did buffeting. Maverick's shape is not conducive to airodinamics.

Now on my motorcycles, finding a windshield that does not buffet, that also is not easy for many riders.

I just leave the windows up and turn on the fan on 2. No AC most of the times. My wife's Prius 3 is terrible too.

Not sure how much opening the passenger window helps since we all have different ideas about buffeting and desired air flow through the cabin. Some say lowering the rear windows an inch or so helps. If you have the slide out rear window opening that does make a difference.

For what it's worth, on a SUV/truck with no back glass opening option, I like to lower both passenger side, FR & RR, about half way, keep both driver side windows up. This gives pretty good airflow at highway speeds, without being overly noisy.

But yeah, for a PU, that back glass is magic for smooth interior airflow.

The only time my sunroof and back window are open are when I'm on forest roads with no one in front of me. Helps cool the truck quickly and also removes the mosquitos. 😂

Totally agree worth it to buy because of this issue.

Someone once said "there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers".
That being said, the Maverick is the worst I've experienced with wind buffeting of any vehicle I've owned. I've never owned a pickup, so maybe it is a problem common to a pick up with a flat rear window. I just traded in my 2018 Escape and the wind buffeting at highway speeds was like a 10th of the Mavericks. I test drove the Maverick in November so I didn't drive it with the drivers window down on the highway. I should have when I picked it up last week before I signed the paperwork. Stupid me. Don't agree that all modern cars have severe wind buffeting. Had a 2011 Ford Fiesta hatch back, had a 2012 Ford Focus hatchback. Had a 2018 Ford Escape. I drove several rental cars to include a 2019 Kia Sportage on my road trips in the past 10 years. None had severe buffeting with the drivers window down like the Maverick. The only negative thing on the other vehicles is the wind noise made me have to turn the radio up louder, but I didn't have to lower windows on the opposite side. As far as the Maverick, so far the best thing I've found (if you don't have the optional window in the rear glass)to do if just the drivers window is down, is to lower the opposite side rear window down about 1/4 to 1/2 way. It will help alleviate the wind buffeting quite a bit.

AFAIK all modern vehicles are wind tunnel tested with windows up for maximum airlflow over the vehicle to increase MPG. It has long been recommended NOT to drive with windows down.

The #1 reason to get the opening rear window.
Got a rear window and it’s own wind buffering, is really extreme for its tiny opening. Doesn’t help other windows stop buffering. But I also have a soft fabric type of bed cover so it’s kinda loud back there.
