I do not have a sun roof on the maverick that I have now but I do have a sunroof optioned for a Mav that I ordered back in September. With any luck I will get it in a year from now.

Anyway, when I roll my back windows down for my dogs I get wind buffeting unless I roll my front windows down also.
I was hoping an owner on this forum wouldn't mind rolling their back windows down and opening their sunroof to see if the wind buffeting goes away. It would be a deciding factor for me to go with the Mav with sunroof over the one with out. Please let me know if anyone has done this. Front windows will have to be in the fully up position.

Thank you for all your help on this.

I have minimal buffering with the rear windows cracked about two inches, but I opened the sunroof to check for you and I do not notice any buffering.

It's an option I love on the truck FYI. Even when it isn't open the extra ambient light makes it feel even roomier.

It helps a little bit. Opening the rest of the windows does more.

I hope you got the sliding rear window because with the sunroof and that open the interior stays a lot cooler when it sits in the sun.

I get no buffeting with sunroof open and back window open. I get some with rear passenger windows open and sunroof, but it all goes away with the back window. I love the power back window and sunroof.

I get about the same buffeting with rear windows down regardless of sunroof open or closed. Recommend as others have…and suggest having a rear-slider if you want both rear passenger windows fully down.

However, I was able to drive up to 45 mph with the sunroof open and the rear windows fully down.Rear-slider remained closed. Once I hit 50 mph…the experiment ended, and was the opposite of comfortable.

BTW … the dogs called and said they want a gladiator.

+1 on the sunroof and back slider. previous cars i'd crack the back passenger window and vent the sunroof on the highway to get some air and not be too noisy, this works in the mav too, but as others said the lower the windows the worse the buffeting gets. However vented or open sunroof and slider opens you get plenty of air, and its actually quieter than cracking a rear window. The slider also lets you adjust the flow too. BTW my dogs love the mav.

Man,
Not what I wanted to hear. Thanks for all the help guys.

I was hoping that I could have the rear windows completely down with the front windows completely up. That way I could have the air conditioning on me and the dogs could hang out the window.

I was hoping that having the sunroof and back window open would take the buffeting away.

thank you so much for the information.

Just takes a small crack up front to get the buffeting to stop. This likely would still work, it's what I did in the summer before I got the truck with rear window.

It's not the "wind" directly. It's the pressure difference as the air moves over the vehicle. Your vehicle becomes a diaphragm. The pressure, not the sound hurts your ears.

Different vehicles, different speeds, different windows all have a different effect. Just figure out which opening works best to release the pressure build up without creating too much swirling wind in the car.

We have the sunroof and the back slider in our Mav. I think the air moves over the sunroof when vented and has less effect (maybe an air pocket of pressure?) The back slider seems to mitigate the problem so far. On our Chevy Volt it was always the opposite window worked best. If the drivers window was buffeting, the rear passenger window opened just an inch or two eliminated the problem. That would probably work for the Mav too, just haven't tried it yet.
