I understand that the decision on whether to spec a sunroof or not is very subjective, but I have what I hope is a more objective question to help decide on whether to include one on my 2024 XLT Tremor spec sheet. What's your experience with wind buffering if you don't have a rear slider window?

I had expected that sunroof and slider open would work well, which was reflected in comments I saw on a number of threads. Unfortunately the slider was dropped for 2024. Would buffeting be unavoidable or do folks have another trick for avoiding it without a slider?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a rear slider on my 23 Mav. It works well to reduce buffeting but I haven't used it that much. I can't give you info on full or partial open. I generally leave 1 or both rear windows down about an inch and that takes care of buffeting. I'd like to use the slider more but have forgotten to close it. You can't do that around here.
While I really like skylights and tend to try to have one on my cars, I didn't get one on my Mav. Seemed like better ways to spend the money.

Have the Lariat with sunroof and rear electric slider. Someone else’s order, but like my order (which has never arrived 1 yr and 4 Mo) except for the above mentioned items. I just love the air flow! I modulate it by just raising the rear of the sunroof, and adjusting the rear electric slider opening. Side windows closed for noise control. Absolutely no buffeting at various speeds to 70. I don’t drive faster than that unless I’m on the scooter (HD)!
Love the Maverick, 3 months, 4000 miles, 32 mpg! (ICE TURBO, AWD)

I do not have a power/manual slider window.
I do not have an issue with buffeting when the moonroof is open by itself and no other windows down.
I, too, drop one of the rear window down an inch or more for air flow.

Ex: moonroof popped/cracked up ..drop rear passenger window to get airflow to me.
Drop rear driver window to get airflow to my front passenger.

I have the sunroof with no rear slider window. I never experience buffeting with all windows closed and the sunroof open. The only time in the Maverick I experience buffeting, is when both rear windows are down only.

On a side note. It took me 6 months to realise the sunroof had 2 open positions. I only ever pressed open once. Twice opens it a bit more.

Thanks for confirming the sunroof/moonroof can be open without buffeting and all windows closed. Can you elaborate on what open position(s) work best. Popped up, partially/fully slid open, other?

I have a sunroof (ordered for the dogs I transport) on my '22 XL but dropped it in favor of the rear slider on my '23 XLT. If you can, sit in a Maverick with a sunroof. I dropped it for the '23 because I felt it was too far rearward unlike some of my other cars that have had sunroofs.
FYI: There is a company (https://breezerwindows.com/) that offers on their website starting at $499 a larger rear removable window option for the Maverick. (popular with the F150 crowd). Last I checked they hadn't started manufacturing them yet but now with the option dropped for '24 that may make them move to production.

I’m hoping I can get a rear slider installed aftermarket still 🤞

Best to me (most air flow) = comes from the moonroof slid all the way open and rear passenger window opened an inch or more .. gets good air to driver.

Typical for me = pop/tilt up moonroof and drop the rear passenger window until flow s acceptable.

I should have added to my original response is the only time i get buffeting is with only the rear windows are down (fronts/moonroof closed).

I had a manual slider + pop-up moonroof on my previous Tacoma XCab and the airflow was even better than what i can do with just the moonroof + rear passenger windows.

My Mini-Cooper had a tilting Sunroof but I added this to help defect wind noise. Very cheap at $20-35 just to experiment...Easily put on and take off. Just have to measure the right width...Also help keep rain from entering the sunroof. Haven't put one on the Maverick yet but might in the near future, so far don't see a need for a sunroof deflector yet.

Forgive me but being ignorant but no power rear window on the 24's? No keypad on the doors?

Well that's interesting! I use the sunroof almost every day and I had no idea it had two open positions until just now. I'll have to make sure to open it all the way from now on. Thanks for sharing that little tip.
