Having been involved with classic cars over the decades, I can say there are only a few instances where color becomes key on collector cars (other than for originality).

Marina Blue and LeMans Blue for late 60's, early 70's Chevelles and Corvettes? Check.
White over Purple on Rocky Mountain 69-70 Cougars? Check.
Plum Crazy and the other vibrant colors on 70's Challengers and Cudas? Check.
The Competition colors for 69-70 Cougar Eliminators and Boss Mustangs? Check.
Red, White, or Black for Gen1 Ford Lightnings? Check.

Those are the only ones I can think of where a specific, original color matters for collector cars. Beyond that, I will be really surprised if the Maverick becomes a collector vehicle.

I wished for a lighter blue when purchasing mine but settled for Alto Blue. Looking back, I am glad I got the darker color. It is a timeless choice and will always be in style, unlike all the “flavor of the month” colors.
Absolutely. It's already a classic in my opinion, but I'm biased. Especially with the XLT interior color scheme, it's the best coordinated look out of all of them.

Those orange accents are the reason I downgraded to an XL.

It's literally already a classic... In the sense they are just bringing back matte bland paint jobs from the 50s and 60s.

It's like they asked "What is the most boring thing we can do with paint? Ahh. Yes. Matte should make a comeback."

True. Not a fan, yet I'd buy a Cyber Orange Mav over an Area 51 any day.
I like cyber orange, but it fits the bronco sport with that blacked out contrasting roof better than it fits the maverick with its slightly blue interior. Area 51 is, imo, the perfect balance of something that's very attractive and eye caching, but also subtle enough to endure over many years without overstaying it's welcome.

The new Azure Grey is similar but yet different. Area 51 will only be produced in 2022 and 2023 model years? Will these become collectible or will it just be a discontinued color everyone forgets about?
What is with people thinking the Maverick is going to become collectable somehow?

Yea, that's a head scratcher. I like the enthusiasm, but I'm way too grounded to think my Maverick will be anything but a rusting junkyard heap in 20 years.

A ‘22/‘23 Area 51 Hybrid Maverick may become many things, “Collectable” is not on the list..

Good luck

.
My MY22 Velocity Blue is very similar to my 2018 F-150 Lightening Blue, so sometimes it could just be a name change? I doubt, since only MY22's this color available, that it will become collectible?
