I preferred the basic interior and did not want or need additional tech. Considering I was able to get everything I wanted (including the steelies), plus a few extra bits for $25k, hard to pass on.

I find your term “Poverty Edition” very offensive. My people prefer “Financially Challenged.”
I find both terms offensive. The word you're looking for is "smart".

talks about excessive doodads, chip shortage, reliability, etc. I’m not a luddite, retired from an IT career, but I still think simpler is better when it comes to autos. Everything in my 20-year old Ranger still works, because there’s not much tech stuff in it that can fail.
Its like my dad always use to say, "the more bells and whistles there is, the more to go wrong with it" And as a typical kid, did I listen? No! I ordered all the stuff... Im now 58, lol 😁

You only have 3 things to worry about in your old Ranger gas, electrical, and mechanical the new Maverick the computer thinks something is wrong and there you sit by the side of the waiting for the tow truck

Hackability: I was planning on a lift, new tires, etc. from the outset, so buying the XL gave me more of a budget for the AWD w/2.0 EB. and lots of add-ons. I ordered everything we are now being told not to buy such as the SIBL, hard-trifold tonneau, tray mats....other than the wheels and tires, my truck was turnkey upon arrival.

The fact that there is no cruise control is actually OK with me, cant stand cruise control. Even in my cars with cruise control, about the only time I use it is when I am driving through speed trap towns and I set it at 25 MPH.

The one thing I was not expecting was the motorized mirrors. I guess the stock XL does not include them but since I got the CP360, they were included.

The heated & motorized seats sound nice, but I keep my cars forever. I have a 2002 Explorer with now TWO broken motorized seats, just a major PITA.

Its my new 12-step program through: I have quit drinking and drugs and now I have a new addiction, my '22 Maverick.

Well, I'm an old fart thats never had any luxury items in vehicles I've bought, so now is the time. Ya, my butt will warm up fast enough without seat heaters and my hands can withstand a cold steering wheel, but now I don't need to wait for all that to take place, I'll just press a button.😊 Most of you guys probably will be around long enough to someday will want and enjoy these comfort gizmos, where I may not........so I went for it. I have gone long enough without luxury items in a vehicle. So bring on the heated seats, better radio, navigation system and auto start ..............yea for me. The rest of you can think what you want.

On average modern cars are way more reliable than old ones, even with all the tech and computerization

I was looking for a basic, functional awd/4wd pickup that I could tow my small boat out of some primative launch sites and wouldn’t break the bank. XL with 4K tow was a minimum. The cross traffic warning feature is great safety feature that I wanted and thats what I ordered.

cruise control wasn’t a requirement but after a couple medium distance trips I realized I would really like it so I’m grateful for the DIY to enable that capability.

having owned several luxury vehicles I’ve circled back to using the basic trim level as a starting point and having the options earn their way on. I know all about scope creep, so Its easy to see how one can rationalize moving up trim levels for features.

i grew up driving a VW with “Automatic Stickshift” and heating the cabin was reliant on whatever heat decided to wander down the foil ductwork from the heat exchanger wrapped around the exhaust out back. From that, everything is a luxury.

I went with XLT Lux Hybrid and a couple of add-ons. $27007 MSRP . Not cheap, not expensive. XL sounded Spartan. My 2008 Taco was nicer on the interior.

Total target budget is 25K, including whatever I get for my 2010 Subaru Forester, so guessing 29K.

Ordered XL hybrid, hitch, inverter, and CP360.

Will add rims, tires, tonneau, tint, spray-in, ceramic, as budget allows.

Well I am truly glad for those of you that opted to go with XL and you are happy with it. I went for the Lariat and I have ZERO regrets. My mod is putting on tailgate lettering, window deflectors and a tonneau cover. LOL! I do enjoy watching all the mod threads and see everything folks can do with these little trucks! The good things is that the trim pricing made it were everyone for the most part could get in where they fit in. $29,000 for a Lariat is still low cost in my book. :)
