talks about excessive doodads, chip shortage, reliability, etc. I’m not a luddite, retired from an IT career, but I still think simpler is better when it comes to autos. Everything in my 20-year old Ranger still works, because there’s not much tech stuff in it that can fail.

As a tech-head, I can certainly understand why people choose fancier trims with all the gadgets. But I also really enjoy functional simplicity over flashy gizmos--which is why I bought an XL. So far, I am really enjoying my truck.

With all the XL modding fun going on, I am kind of wishing I went with the XL. I sure am enjoying all the XL mod reads. If the '23 MY prices hold without huge increases, I may get another one for my son that we can play with modifying together.

The low price of a base hybrid XL made this truck tempting for many. The fact that you could load it up and still be way under what the average new car price is what made me go for a Lariat first edition.

Well I am truly glad for those of you that opted to go with XL and you are happy with it. I went for the Lariat and I have ZERO regrets. My mod is putting on tailgate lettering, window deflectors and a tonneau cover. LOL! I do enjoy watching all the mod threads and see everything folks can do with these little trucks! The good things is that the trim pricing made it were everyone for the most part could get in where they fit in. $29,000 for a Lariat is still low cost in my book. :)

I avoided the lux pack and lariat for the same reason. Just focused on practical features I needed. My only concession to luxury is the moonroof and even that has the practical value of keeping the interior from overheating when parked on sunny days.

I've driven luxury cars and they're nice but after a while it's just a car with a lot of expensive extra stuff to fix if it breaks.

I wanted the XL. Wife demanded heated seats. So got XLT Lux. Thought FX4 would be fun. Suddenly it's $10K more. 🤷‍♂️
I can totally relate. haha My wife didn't like the XL interior and wanted certain features like heated seats, power seats, power mirrors, AWD, tow package, nicer rims, ect. So $10K later you and I are in the same boat!

Oh well.....it is what it is I guess. It's her first new vehicle in 12 years and we are in a better place financially than we ever have been so it was worth it.

Just don’t do like everyone else on here and spend thousands converting it to an XLT or Lariat.
You are seriously overestimating the amount most of us are spending. For example, I have spent less than $500 on mine, for cruise control, traffic sign recognition (free) a bed mat, and a tonneau cover.

Most are probably spending less than $1000, depending on what they are adding to the bed.
