I was getting ready to change my oil @ ~1000 miles and I was looking up the capacity and Ford shows a very annoying 6.1 qts for a 2025 Ecoboost which was different than my first google searches- sure enough it did change from 2024 to 2025. I'm considering letting the dealer handle this first one because I don't have ramps to be able to get under the vehicle and the felt liner seems annoying.

The Splash shield is a pain in the arse, around 15 screws to drop it before you can access anything.
If you start doing your own oil changes. You might as well buy a package of these off Amazon for round $10.
Sorry, I don't have the link any longer.

Yeah that's why I'm considering letting the dealer do this first one. I wonder they can be replaced with thumbscrews. The fl2127 filter seems to be unavailable at parts sto

I would highly suggest that you get some metal screws and clips to replace the plastic junk.get some extra one because you WILL DROP A SCREW OR STRIP OUT THE CLIPS.

Yeah, Ford bumped the oil capacity from 5.7 qts (2024) to 6.1 qts (2025) on the 2.0L EcoBoost, and honestly, that’s a good thing! More oil means better heat dissipation, longer-lasting oil life, and improved engine protection—especially for a turbo engine that runs super hot.

If you’re doing the first oil change at 1,000 miles, solid move. Letting the dealer handle it is fine if you don’t have ramps yet, but down the line, it’s an easy DIY once you figure out the felt liner setup. Just make sure they use a quality full synthetic or better a 100% synthetic and don’t underfill it!

More oil on our ECOBOOST’s, = better engine life ✌

I have a 13 year old Ford with the same red plastic clips on the splash shield, and I've only had to replace two of them in that time. I hand-tighten them "snug" with a screwdriver and I've never had a screw come loose on its own between 8,000 mile oil change intervals. If you over-tighten them, yes, they will strip.

I have a cheap one of these that I use when I change my oil to remove those screws.
Quick and easy.

I've done 6 oil changes and haven't ruined any screws or clips yet. I hand tighten. These screws are appreciated compared to my Nissan that uses plastic pop clips to attach the cover. I beak 1/2 dozen of those every time.

The latest HP guidance is that is is unchanged, They thought the pariculate filter would hurt but they gained it back somehow.

I find it hard to believe it is substantially different from previous years.

Has anybody stumbled across a really good video or article that explains the ecoboost changes in good detail? I know we've had some threads on MTC that list the changes. I'd just love an interview video where a Ford engineer explains what changed and why.

The major change is that previous 2.0 was only direct fuel injections and carbon build up will occur on the intake valves because fuel does wash over them.

The new 2025 is port and direct injected which will reduce or eliminate the carbon build up issues.

I had a Crosstrek and installed a fumoto valve which meant oil changes were super easy. Oil filter was on top, and it had a cutout on the plastic skid plate to reach the valve. The Ford seems like it wants to discourage people from doing so haha.

I was most likely going to just jack one or both sides up and then put it on stands. Ramps don't give me confidence.

The biggest obstacle is really that the oil filter is hard to find and 6.1 quarts means I need 7 quart bottle. I was planning to use the Kirkland signature oil though, $36 for 2x5 qts
