Trying to get a closer look?
Please do it from the side people…I always have someone 1/2 a car length (can’t see their headlights) behind me, I hit the Grandpa Button (the emergency flashers) that works for about 10 seconds until they crawl up again😡. Maybe they are getting real close because the hybrid logo is so darn small and they are checking for that?

The purpose of brake lights is to get the attention of the driver behind you when you decelerate. If they had been correctly named decelerating lights, engineers probable would have added an accelerometer to the brake decelerating light system decades ago.
Exponentially answered.

Hoping everyone that is behind me has 360 upgrade or similar…my Hyundai has taken over twice when someone stopped for no reason in front of me…

It seems like a very high percentage of Mavericks are getting rear ended. Most of the accident posts here are about getting rear ended. I read an article recently about a huge salvage company somewhere in the Midwest that is buying up all the totaled Mavs and the majority have rear end damage. Certainly Idiots on cell phones and texting are a contributing factor but you would expect the rate to be the same as all vehicles. Idiots don t discriminate. So that can’t be the only reason
One thing I suspect with Hybrids is one pedal driving. Ford did not put a simple $25 part in the hybrids that would engage the brake lights when the vehicle is regen braking like most other hybrids and EV’s do. Maybe the NHTSA will pick up on this and order a recall.
Couple of questions for the group.
Of those that have been rear ended did to you replace the stock brake bulbs with brighter led’s like Lasfits?
If you are running the replacement LED’s do you think they make a difference?
Basicly, does anyone have any good ideas to prevent this?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Posting this here and the “decal” thread….

What percentage of Mavericks are getting rear ended?
What is considered a "high percentage."
Show me the data.

I don't think it's a higher percentage of Mavericks getting hit in the rear. I think it's a higher percentage of those that are being "totalled". I have not seen any data to back this up, however.

More people follow too closely, plain and simple. In my Outback, I had a Tap-Turn flasher module, and could toss the turn signals (yellow on an Outback) into a combination strobing wig-wag mode, which brought their attention to the big FOP Badge, and they'd back off real quick.

Sadly, no apparent way on the Maverick to do that, and the Tap-Turn people sold, and it's no longer available for Ford models. (They only offered it for a limited number of brands & models, although there was a model for some Fords).

Three years ago, my 3-month-old Hyundai Tucson got rear-ended in stop-and-go traffic while traveling through Baltimore, Md. One year ago, my 6-month-old Maverick got rear-ended in stop-and-go traffic in Orlando, FL. I'm hoping I don't get a repeat in five months in my 4-month old Maverick.
This doesn't surprise me. When you drive on I-4, your life is on the line.

Anyone else old enough to remember the Merita Bread sign as a landmark driving on I-4? I miss seeing that.

Other topics on this forum talk about the practice of using the "L" button to slow down.
Apparently on the hybrid it charges the battery more.
There are 6 or 7 reasons I wouldn't do that with one being
it also doesn't display the brake lights.

Yes, I HATE driving on I-4 (or Orlando anywhere). But, I was on Narcoossee when I got hit. And yes, I remember the Merita Bread sign. I haven't lived in the Orlando area for almost 30 years, and don't remember when it came down.

As as an ex-military flyer, we would say situational awareness is the key here. Either don't do it in traffic or lightly tap the brakes to activate your brake lights. No lazy one pedal driving in stop n go traffic.

Well, also, I'd rather use my brake pads to slow down rather than my transmission.
I never did that in a "standard" manual shift car either.
Yes, downshifted to be in the correct gear if I had to let off the clutch, but use the brake pads not the transmission gears to slow down.
Even worse in an automatic.
Even worse in a CVT.

I'm not sure exactly, either. Seemed like there was a deep curve at one point on I-4 and that's where the sign was, but with the re-routing and construction that's been going on forever, hard to say when things changed. I remember driving with my mom as a kid on I-4 back in '79 and there was nothing but cow pastures and maybe an industrial building here and there in the distance. How things have changed!
