My first Maverick got totaled (not my fault) one year ago. I had zero problems with the insurance company. I paid about $34,000 and they gave me "market value" about $42,000. I wasn't about to turn down that offer.

It's all tied to the frame, I've spent many hours on my back under the bed fixing and up dating the use ability of this trucklet. Air bags where they need to be. And electric on the bumper. Your idea doesn't cover off center wrecks because the receiver is attached to the frame which would exacerbate the impact especially in a torsional juxtaposition, I once built a bumper out of 1" steel angle with a 2"X6" inside the rectangle of steel I backed into a pole, the steel bent but the wood returned to its original shape. 67 Chevelle station wagon no frame damage result. There is a reason, there are relief bends in the box frame.
A better idea would be a shock absorbing bumper guard that fits into the receiver hitch.
I'm not surprised there was no frame damage, the impact was all transferred to the occupants back then. That was before the mandated crumple zones.67 Chevelle station wagon no frame damage result.
The back seat was gone, it was a $50 car that had been mashed in the front and back, so I chopped it into a crew cab El Camino, with a Ford Torino front end, it still ran well and I had gallons of bondo. It was before I discovered all the misuses for duct tape.I'm not surprised there was no frame damage, the impact was all transferred to the occupants back then. Or, the max to fix it with new parts and they even calculate thr loss of diminished value due to accident.Get an attorney and make sure you get enough for a new 2025
I'm trying to understand this. So the insurance company totaled your car and only paid out 80% of market value, they allowed you to keep the vehicle because you invested the remaining 20% ? I always thought that if an insurance company totaled a vehicle, they would take possession of it and it would end up at Copart or somebody like that.December 2023. My Honda Element gets rear-ended on a highway, the driver behind tried to stop in his Mercury Mountaneer, but couldn't - hit me probably at 30 mph or so (I was stationary after a full stop in moderate traffic).
Same as yours - bumper facing 45 degrees down, and not much else (visibly). The body shop found "frame damage", the insurance totalled the car, paid me about 80% of its market value, and I am keeping it.
I went to another body shop - he laughed at the "frame damage", saying it was purely symbolical and didn't need any work. Replaced my bumper for $700, I am still driving it, will be trading for my upcoming Maverick in January. Of course I will disclose everything about the accident when I trade it in, I expect getting about half of its market value.
In the end, I will be getting more that its market value. - I estimate 140% (insurance payment + trade-in payout).
Based on what I just said above, yes - if you do the same as I did.
They gave me a choice to surrender the vehicle and get a full payment, or to keep it and get a partial payment. This is actually the second time this happened in our family - several years back, son's Subaru Impreza had hail damage, and we were presented with the same choices. Son ended up keeping the car with a partial payoff.I'm trying to understand this. The insurance company offered me the option to buy it for what a salvage company's quote was. So what they would have received from Copart or other.I'm trying to understand this.
