UPDATE: I checked with Safelite and two local places. Of the locals, one could not get OEM glass and the other didn't call back with a quote. The one local quoted $997, including taxes and calibration, but it wasn't OEM glass. Safelite quoted $859 (including taxes, calibration, and recycling) and assured me it would be OEM glass. My insurance said they may not pay for OEM glass, if it was more than equivalent glass that wasn't OEM. So, I'm waiting for scheduling now and to hear on if I will have any out-of-pocket.

Your update sounds pretty good. I would just make certain its the oem acoustic glass. It does make a difference. Ive driven my lariat and an xlt without the acoustic in the same environment etc and you will notice the difference it makes. Pay the extra out of pocket if you have to. Thats my opinion on the matter. Good Luck

I already received the invoice from Safelite. It specifies the OEM solar & acoustic glass. Insurance called back and said if they submitted the claim specifying OEM that it only had about a 50% chance of being approved, as they were only required to replace it with "like" glass. BUT if I paid out of pocket and brought them the invoice, then as long as it was under $2k they would just cut me an office check.

It seems like it is all going to work out. My appointment is next Monday.

Update:
Everything went as planned. Here is the summary:
  • Claim not submitted to insurance. (More on this later.)
  • Safelite called and replacement scheduled. I was very emphatic that it had to be OEM glass or I would walk away.
  • Safelite sent invoice for review. It specified the OEM glass and re-calibration. With materials, labor, and tax the bill would be for $822.03
  • Went to appointment. Confirmed OEM glass was to be installed (Ford logo, etc.).
  • It took about an hour and a half for the replacement.
  • Paid the $822.03 quoted and received the paid receipt.
  • Send the electronic copy of the receipt to my local insurance office.
  • They are mailing me a check for $822.03.
The point of paying cash and then receiving a check is as follows.
  • Insurance is only required to replace the windshield with "like" quality.
  • My insurance agent (State Farm) explained that if I sent in a claim requesting OEM glass then there was only a 50% chance, or less, of it being approved.
  • However, if I paid cash and the final bill was less then $2000 then I could give them the paid receipt and they could cut me an "office check" for the amount.
  • Following the procedure above, with paying for the repair out of pocket and then submitting the claim, guaranteed that I would get OEM glass. If I submitted the claim before the repair then, the chances of getting OEM glass were less than 50%.
I hope this experience, and the above suggestions by others, helps someone else down the line.
