Fusion or Five Hundred? The Fusion never had a CVT outside of the eCVT hybrids. The Five Hundred had the maligned belt-style CVT.
I apologize it must have been an automatic transmission. I'm not familiar with what Ford has to offer in their vehicles. I assumed most cars withing the last 5 years came standard with a CVT. But yes, he has had it replaced 3 times.

Thanks for the response. I think I will likely go with factory recommendations then.

My stepdad had warranty work done on his Fusion 3 times for failed CVTs. I'm not letting it scare me away though. From what I've read the eCVT should have very little issues in the Maverick since it's not like a traditional CVT.
As some one mentioned the Fusions never had a regular CVT. The 2013 to 16 Fusion hybrids (cmax and mkz) had a bad eCVT bearing but since been resolved (TSB below)

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10148717-9999.pdf

remember you get a 8 year 100k mile hybrid system warranty. Including the eCVT.

I do recommend a more aggressive transmission fluid change schedule than the manual suggests. It recommends the first one at 150k miles Under normal driving. Than suggests people who drive under “special operating environments to change at 30k with no middle ground. Otherwise the manual seems to be fine. Pages 441 and 442 of owners manual for reference.

Something people don’t think about. If you plan to take a trip the mountains or something that would make the vehicle go through its passes an extra oil change before wouldn’t hurt, or after if you just did one recently.

Has anyone found any oil that has the WSS-M2C961-A1 rating as listed in the Maverick manual?
I called Pennzoil and they said their products do not meet this requirement.
From what I see online even Motocraft oil does not.
I am looking for 5W-30

if you want it to last, the oil has to meet specs and be synthetic. Engines are built to tighter tolerances now.

Yeah I use the recommended specs, but it really doesn't matter the brand

Mobil, Royal Purple, Valvoline, Kendall, Motorcraft, and Pennzoil all have oils that meet the specification. Probably more than that, but this was the first look search I came up with.
