What's with the oil catch can? I've been fussing about the carbon buildup issue with direct fuel injection and came across folks discussing "catch cans" as if it could help to prevent carbon buildup on valve stems, etc. Or am I misunderstanding the purpose of oil catch cans altogether? If oil catch cans don't help with carbon buildup, etc., Is there any thing else that can prevent carbon issues with dfi engines other than buying a vehicle that uses mpfi? Thanks!

They are supposed to reduce fluids getting into the intercooler. Fuel and oil blow past the piston rings and get into the crank case then go back through the PCV into the intake manifold If I understand the issue correctly. From there it gunks up everything in the turbo and intercooler where it can pool. The catch can bleeds off some of the fluids and collects them for disposal.

I got one of Burchers catch cans in the box waiting along along with a bunch of other parts and mods for whenever my order comes in. Its a very nicely constructed unit. Nice welds and a great finish.

You all need to use the search feature. The topic of catch cans has been discussed ad nauseum. 🙄

I used search feature, and like what cubanredneck did with 2 catch cans. One for upper PCV and one for lower PCV setup.

Because they want you to bring it in with encrusted intaie valves needing a top end redo just out of warranty.

There is already a factory catch-can. An aftermarket one will do virtually nothing. The aftermarket ones are for different engines that have high blow-by when driving at the redline constantly, and are useless for most people.

None, because it's not needed.

There is going to be virtually zero difference in any of them. Note that almost none of them are easily removeable since you have to make you own connections, they don't give you the Ford connectors for your PCV line.

Also don't expect them to be designed by automotive engineers, all are basically made by Some Dude who drew it up on a napkin.

I do not run the snot out of my truck, and I empty both of em every 2K. I get lighter colored crap with water in it from the upper crankcase vent, and darker crap with water in it from the lower crankcase vent. Without them, this crap will eventually put a coating on the inside of the intercooler dropping its efficiency and will coke up the intake valves. They work.
