What is this for?

I could spend time looking on my own, but seems like this might be the faster route. Sorry I don't have a picture at the moment.

I have a 22 EB AWD LARIAT. When I was detailing the interior yesterday I took out the factory supplied center console liners to give them a good cleaning. In the middle/back part there's a roughly 1 by 2 inch removable access panel. Inside is a red looped tether that seems to release something if pulled. Of course I didn't pull it. Just really curious. Sorry if this has been covered before.

Interesting. I was just looking on my 2025 XLT and it doesn’t have such an access panel in the Console. I don’t see anything around the transmission shift knob either like some cars have. Does anybody know where the transmission release is for a 2025 XLT.?

oh wow. Sure enough there it is underneath a blue silicone cover that they put in there. I didn’t even know that came out. Thanks!!! I would’ve never found it!!

On my 24 Lariat, it's not visable. Must be pushed underneith. I was afraid to pull it out.
