Funny thing about the credit card slot. My cousin had an Expedition Max and someone placed their credit card onto the console in front of the shifter. When the truck slowed one time, the credit card slipped forward into the gap between the top of the console and the bottom of the center stack.
The Ford dealer quoted 1.5 hours to retrieve it!
I looked online and found a video which showed how to remove one 8mm bolt and the side of the console comes right off. Found an old driver's licence, another credit card, a package of special screw heads for attaching canvas to fiberglass and a bunch of other receipts.
The slot works!

I was afraid the slot might be a bottomless pit - which would have been weird, So I tested it with a longer piece of cardboard. So now I’m confident it’s safe for a credit card. But has anyone checked to make sure there’s not a chip reader in there?

Yep,
There is a chip reader in there.
It's for the folks that are on the
"Pay As You Drive Plan." (Kind of like the quarter meter plan)
Before they can start their Maverick. They have to insert their credit card. When they are done driving they can pull it out. 😁
It's also used to make your monthly payment.

Disclaimer: Just kidding

I think the problem is, when you search “What’s this?” On MTC, you get 8,365,431 results and that is just too many results to comb through to find the picture of what it is you have. What posters don’t realize is that “what’s this?” Threads are one of 4 things, the bed power pigtail, the green pull for opening the gas tanks on hybrids, the neutral lock pin on EBs, or the jack/lug wrench packet behind the rear seat.
Dont forget the tiny gas funnel for hybrids :)

I just reported this post. Fingers crossed!

Now that we are in the thread afterparty, I will share that my own personal "WTF is this" was the tiny white funnel. I figured it was too small and impractical to be something the previous owner would pay money for (especially when you can get a useful, normal-sized plastic funnel for less than $5)... so it had to be a piece the OEM "gifted" to us. It is the cheap hotel travel toothbrush of funnels.
You can also use it for an emregency pee break to fill a plastic bottle if you are stuck in a traffic jam :)
