Anyone know why this is here?
That's to cover the "Pillar C" - the rear pillar for the roof. That's where the seat belts are secured to and also needed room for the 4" (?) rear speakers. Hence the reason for the width of the cover and shorter rear window:

I am more worried about the fender cover, where it meets the tailgate:

There's a gap, where the water will get inside into the fender...

It's for the lumber when you use the stake pockets for stake side pickup bed extenders.

Except on mine they forgot the stake pockets!

It's probably dipping in to be closer to the pillar, the 45 degree strips are just decoration that happen to match the direction of the bumper front and back. The left and right sides stripes lslanted to the other side. Just uniformity/decoration as someone posted...

Remember all those who were getting rear-ended shortly after finally getting their long-awaited Mavs? These left- & right-side indents are for adding vertical 4th & 5th brake lights so these fools can’t miss seeing red in front of them!

That part has a couple functions it is both designed for looks but it also provides protection when you are putting stuff in the bed over the sides

On my ram this area is unprotected and I have scratches in the paint from loading stuff. I believe Ford did this to protect the paint when loading certain things.nice touch.

It and the ones of the same pattern on the bumpers were designed by cleaner/polish product manufacturers to catch dust/dirt to increase the use of their products. Ford receives a kick back on each vehicle sold. Capitalistic ingenuity at its finest!!!!;) :ROFLMAO:
