New owner of a 2025 Mav XLT AWD Hybrid here and today I poked my head underneath to have a look at the spare tire. Much to my surprise and shock, it sure looks like the hot exhaust from the tail pipe is melting some of the plastic just below it. I've only got 1500 miles on it, mostly highway driving.

What the actual fork?

Looks like your exhaust it caught up. The exhaust hangers are supposed to be vertical. I had it happen to me backing into a pile of snow. Just pull it down and make sure the hanger on the exhaust is on the bottom and the hanger on the body is on top. That is probably why you are melting the bumper because the exhaust is up to high.

I have no idea how this could have happened. I haven't backed into or run over anything.

Can someone do me a big favor and please post a picture of how the tail pipe should be hanging over that piece of plastic. Thanks.

My tailpipe is almost exactly even with the bottom of the bumper.
And it's a hybrid. Good luck

It almost looks like yours is not lined up with plastic cut out in bumper? Make sure the upper hanger is pushed all the way to the nub like your lower hanger is…

Thats just parallax from the camera angle. All is well. I just wanted a112358 to see what it should like like when it's hung correctly.

Thanks a lot, that will help me figure out if I can do a quick fix or take it to a dealer.
Hopefully the 3 year bumper to bumper will cover the repair,
Hopefully your bumper to bumper covers the actual bumper.😁

I figured it might have been an optical illusion. Your picture was the best for showing the correct “hang”!

To the OP - there have been a couple other threads that other forum members have posted regarding melted bumper from exhaust. Just know you’re not alone:)

My only hesitation is the nearest Ferd dealer is 80 miles away, and it will kill a whole day to get it serviced. But yeah, I probably should have them do it since I will want them to replace that plastic part that melted.
I would only do a quick fix if I can to prevent further melting.
