When Mavs first went on sale, I recall a Youtube video that showed that if you reposition the tailgate cables so the tailgate is slanted, the camera will be perfectly positioned over the hitch so you can use the screen to help back up and position the hitch under the tongue of the trailer. I have not tried it but it worked in the video.
Yes, it Does Work!
I used it this past Saturday, not to tow a trailer, ɓut to haul some lumber. I had the tailgate at that angle and in backing up and noticed!
"Hey, I CAN See my license plate!" 🤣

That's a good point. I'm thinking more in terms of resale value or just keeping modern tech. If I'm getting a top trim, I'd prefer it to be loaded with all features. Nothing worse than paying for everything and having blank spots on the console.
I don't buy ford vehicles for resale value lol. Besides I usually keep my vehicles to the point where they are pretty much worthless anyway. If you really care about resale its best to stick to base models. Higher trims drop a lot more right off the lot than the base models do. I do agree though, blank button slots drive me nuts but the hybrid already has a bunch due to auto off buttons missing etc.

I learned to back up a boat using a 1970 Pontiac with standard transmission, and have backed up a lot of boats and trailers over the years. I have parallel parked a pickup and 18' boat on one attempt, so I know how to backup a trailer. I would still like to have it on my Mav. I have a January 6 build date and my accessories show it on the truck. Maybe it will be on it, maybe not.

My December build date shows it on the assesories as well. I'm guessing just a fluke in the website but only time will tell.

This is a misprint (and not the first time this has happened with Ford). A January 6th build will not have the trailer assist package.

The horror!
It's literally the difference of a few weeks. Would I prefer to get it 2 or 3 weeks early but miss out on tech that was advertised? I feel like that would tick me off a little.

Then wait 2 or 3 weeks. But there will always be new tech coming.

I would like to have it also. Not just for me, but for any of my family to back up if needed / wanted.

The 2 features are hitch assist and backup assist. Assuming that backup assist functions as it does on other Ford trucks, you put a sticker on the hitch that shows the camera in better fidelity exactly how the trailer is oriented, and then it steers to match the grid line overlay. So if you want to go straight, it does that, but if you want a 90 degree turn, it does that too.

here's a video:

I will stick with my non A.I. , non-auto-steering Maverick. I don’t trust technology THAT much.

Common sense with modern technology can be very beneficial.

my dad has a late-model BMW with automatic parallel parking. you want to talk about a leap of faith, try that one the first time in Chicago with a piece of crap on either end of you and a tall curb just waiting to chew up your wheels.

it does it fast, too... faster than I would ever dare. just some beeps and it starts reversing and steering.

True. I call the work around for the 22-24 Mavs the Redneck trailer assist.

Just be sure if you have Sync 2, to have the backup camera recall/update done so the camera doesn't freeze causing damage...
You know how you go to adjust something and it seems there was barely any change, so you attempt a few more minor adjustments, then finally think grief and go for big adjustment?
I think I've done that pouring fluids, tightening something to align marks, ect.

I'm picturing backing up slowly carefully, brakes squeaking, staring at camera video thinking, man, barely any change here - and finally go for big change.

Whole time the image is frozen.

My daughter borrowed the '98 f-150 last night to go out with a friend while visiting, and was pleased as punch at, while never having driven it before, having parallel parked in a single pass and being within 6" of the curb.

Vindication.

Over 15 years ago, they tried to turn her away from her driving test, claiming that she didn't have enough hours behind the wheel.

me: "She has more than enough."

no, she doesn't have enough daytime hours.

me: "She has enough total, with more than the minimum of nighttime hours."

you people that don't read the rules, and come in expecting to take the test any way. We have to turn you away all the time. We had a meeting about this just last week.

me: "I need a manager."

manager: same nonsense

As it happened, I had a client laptop with an early cellular modem. I pulled the statute. "50 hours, at least ten of which must be at night."

Then the manual from the DMV: 50 hours, 10 of which must be at night.

And some pencil-pusher had decided that that meant 40 during the day . . .

I went back in, and demanded the manager again.

He went to his boss, and they ended up with the director of the DMV in the capitol on the line.

:ROFLMAO:

They came out and grumbled that she could take the test.

It was only then that it occurred to me that there were only two. possibilities: ruthless retaliation, or waving her through.

They didn't even have her parallel park!

Leaving aside that the space they used really had no reason to back into (something like 30x15!), I sure scored a lot of Daddy Points that day.

But, for crying out loud, a kid shouldn't have to bring a lawyer to her driving test!!!

Ford has made a total of zero (0) statements that the pro assist features will be missing from early builds, yet it’s still being listed and advertised. This forum is the only place anyone has said anything.
