Thinking of also renting a 5x8 UHaul trailer for my 2023 Tremor. Have no towing experience. Tremor is higher than other models and when I hooked up an empty trailer at the UHaul lot, the front of the trailer was tilted upwards with a 2" drop hitch.

Tremor-U-Haul connection.webp

Concerned that too high and will lead to instability. Thinking of going with a 4" drop.

But this is for an empty trailer. Will a properly loaded trailer (60 front/40 rear) compress the rear springs and level out the trailer?
that's interesting, the tremor sits higher than the lariat?

Yes. Higher ground clearance and softer springs I believe.

From the Uhaul FAQ page:
"The optimal ball height for towing U-Haul trailers is 18½ to 18¾ inches. This is measured from the ground to the middle of the hitch ball, prior to connecting the trailer"
On a normal Maverick, a 2" drop hitch gives 18 3/4" to the middle of the ball (see picture in Hot Runr Guy's post), and Tremors are about 1" taller than that. Uhaul's maximum allowed height is 25" so you'll be fine with a 2" drop which should sit at +/- 19 3/4" to the middle of the ball on your truck. If you want to be super anal about the ball height you'd need a 3" drop, but I've never seen one and a 1" difference doesn't matter. Or, get one of these, but they're very expensive:

PS: I always put the tailgate cables in the upper position when towing, sometimes trailers have junk bolted to the hitch or you leave the coupler lock up and it's easy to dent your tailgate if you open it without paying attention. An ounce of prevention ...

Nice tip about the cables.
I have the slow motion tailgate assist gas shock on mine. Dent, probably not.
Scratch, yes probably.

If I need to hitch a u-haul trailer, what ball hitch size do I need and what drop?

2 inch ball? and 2inch drop? or no drop because mavericks are lower to ground

help!
U-Haul should have everything you need. Check their website too.

Good to know! When I (hopefully) get a Maverick, maybe I'll trade with my racing partner who has the same setup but could benefit from an adjustable ball mount. I only ever tow U-Haul trailers and he's got the 2" drop.

Did the trailer sit level with the 2" drop? I like to tow it slightly nose-high to keep the coupler out of the sidewalk on steep driveways, so I might try flipping it around so it's in the 3/4" rise position.

With a Tremor and it's higher ride, it is slightly tilted up for a 2" drop
