There will likely always be the possibility for water to get into the bed wherever there are gaps in the sealing. If you look up tonneau cover reviews on YouTube you can see that even though they’re not waterproof, most of the time the water will be minimal and will remain near the corners or at the front and rear of the bed.

you could always get some of those large vacuum bags for storage and put your luggage in those to waterproof.

I have used the A.R.E. hard top tonneau cover on my F150 since the late 90s.It locks, has adjustable opening, and keeps everything dry. I like it a lot and plan to get one for my Maverick. Best of all it matches the body color of the truck(if that is what you want).

Over-the-rail, one-piece tonneau covers tend to leak less in my experience. There are fewer areas where they can leak since water runs, well, over the bed rails and down the bedsides.

I had a TopDeck (I think they got bought out by Truck Accessories Group) on one of my F-150s. It never leaked a drop inside.

Keep in mind that the bed of a pickup isn't water- or air-tight, nor does it have weather stripping like the cab. While you may prevent water from coming in from the top, the bed is a low-pressure area and water and dust/dirt can get sucked in through gaps between the bed tub and bed sides or the tailgate.

There is usually a decent seal with tonneau covers. The Lund one I had on a previous truck worked well. Can’t speak for what the Ford ones are going to be like, but generally it’s an expectation that it will keep water out.

I don’t expect it to keep all the water out, just dont want a lot to get in.i figure to just put a spacer of some sort in the bed to put the luggage on or put the luggage in plastic totes.a snap on is what i would like since the only time i really need it is on trips.

Just installed the Extang Trifecta signature and after one day of rain and car just parked and driven few miles after rain stopped, I had some water in the front and the end of my Bed. I was hopping it would be fully waterproof but since I live in SoCal it is not a big issue. The main reason I bought the cover was to keep things out of sight. Would be great to hear about other experiences.

I have the OEM cover that retails for $469. So far it has done a good job of keeping water out. You need to apply the weather stripping near the cab in order to keep water out.

Put the luggage in a large garbage bag In the bed under the tonneau cover? What I plan for our trip to the North in a few weeks.

Diamondback is pretty much what you waterproof. The Gator, Ultra ,etc trifold seem to be nice with drains and small leaks mainly at gate. Everything else seems to leak. $$, but we want a linex style exterior and go back and forth. Have time to figure out.

Keep me posted when A.R.E. makes a topper to fit the Maverick. Debating tonneau cover or Softopper.

Alternatively, if you don't want to get a cover at all and only use something when its raining, you could get a waterproof bed bag, and then just stow it when not in use.

While it looks kind of small in that bed, in the Maverick it should occupy most of the space.
