Water Intrusion from Bad Design

I've noticed lately that my Maverick loves to collect water on the top of the passenger rear door seal in particular after a hard rain and when I open the door, water pools into the cubby hole right beneath the seat. It also seems to collect on the door jamb and onto the passenger rear floor mat, which thankfully is rubber and not cloth. I will say that my truck is parked on an incline with it tilted towards the left.

What I think is happening is that water is collecting on the top of the door seal and rolling towards the left side caused by the incline and into the interior as oppose to running off oppositely with it parked on flat level ground. I know there's no water leak because there's no staining on the headliner. There's no water running down the inside of the window. There's no gaps between the seal meets the headliner. And it doesn't smell musty inside. My whole point is that I feel like the doors on both the Maverick and Bronco Sport have a major design flaw that allows too much water to drip inside the car. I'm always having to wipe down the interior trim and seats when opening the door after some rain. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have noticed water running onto the ground when opening the rear door a day after washing it. It does collect up there somewhere.

The insides of the doors and the tailgate collect water. Every car & truck I've ever owned has done this. When the water doesn't drain when you open/close doors is when you do have a problem (drain holes at bottom are clogged).

As to the OP's problem, I don't know why that is happening, but I think the parking on an incline is the most obvious answer, assuming all your weatherstriping is intact..

I have not had any interior water issues at all. No leaking from the windshield, any of the doors and behind the glove box. Nothing. Not a drop.
Me neither.

I have both a Maverick and a bronco sport. I have not experienced this in either vehicle and I don’t recall anyone on the BS forum posting about a problem either. I agree with a previous poster that this doesn’t seem to be a design flaw to me.

I too have had this issue. Mine is mostly the driver side rear passenger door. I store my laptop bag there and take my laptop in on every IT call. After or during rain, I will open that door and some water will run down the top of the roof and end up in that cubby or on the door sill. I recently got a pet rear seat cover because I frequently have PC's and monitors etc.. that I put back there. Now I noticed I have been getting a couple of drips on the bottom seat cushion too. I didn't notice that until I got the waterproof seat cover.

Not a huge issue but more of an annoyance. BTW 22 XLT hybrid.

Yep. Florida rainy season. And no incline involved. Where the water falls from the top gutter seal depends on the speed with which you open the back doors. If you forget and move to slowly, it slops inside on the floor. Move quicker, and most hits the ground.

My truck is similar, “some” water drips off driver side back seat door after a rain, parked on flat. Not a flood, not flooding the rear carpet or anything, just enough to get you wet if you’re in the way. Not a big deal.

Probably just a missed sealer, or step on the line.

I have to tug lightly at the bottom rubber seal of my rear doors to release a cuo or two of trapped rain water. The front isn't as bad, but there is water in the doors. Maybe the door seals cover the drain holes? I'd hate to see my doors rusted out at the bottom in 2 years.
