I wonder if I should get an offer for my trade in with them, instead of bringing it to the dealership.
100% Yes.

Vroom, Carmax, Carvana, any larger local dealers that actively buy.

I came out ahead almost $4k after taxes/fees by selling to CarMax on my 2019 Ranger XLT FX4 against my dealer's offer (which wasn't unreasonable, just not nearly high enough!).

It was a month and a half ago. It gave me an error with an amount. Surely I wasn’t trying to lease but that’s a possibility.

Absolutely! Them and Carvana.

That's not the point. You never were up when you drove off the lot. You were down.
Just a joke stolen from shark tank.

Car valuations are insane right now. Hoping my mav gets delivered soon so I can take advantage on a trade in.

I traded in my 2018 Escape . My dealer offer was lower but when you take into account the sales tax offset it was about 1000 dollars better.

This is a crazy time. I was always told you lose money the minute you drive off the lot not now. Vroom offered me more than I paid with tax . If they would pay this what would they try and sell it for. It's not just Mavericks its every car. The more expensive the more the markup.

I talk to my dealer about this very thing and he said there no way the whole seller are making money. He thinking they are doing it at a loss to try to drive out competition. Told me they sold a bronco sport for 13k over msrp at auction the other day.

We bought our Jeep Cherokee Limited in Dec 2019. MSRP $36K. Incentives reduced the price to $31K. Current KBB and NADA list average retail for the car at 36.5K. I have to say after 72 years, 56 of them driving I have never seen anything like this in my life. Something new every day to keep life interesting I guess.
The annualized rate of inflation for the first eleven months of 2021 is now 7.3%. Probably haven't seen that either, so there are a lot of things you might have bought recently that are now much more expensive. Yay! :cautious:

I'm sure that is part of it. I think their high offer/high selling values are also partially driven by these non-dealer online companies wanting you to both buy and sell to them. Their prices are higher as well, but if they can get you to buy because they are also giving you the best offer, then they have pulled you into their ecosystem. Next time around, if you found the experience seamless then you'd be more likely to look to them first for your next vehicle as well.

They were offering high values before the current market shortage as well. It is an enticement they have to offer because they are getting you on the front end, and with low pressure. You get to avoid the dealership experience where you go to look at a vehicle first, then get screwed on the trade side.

The same people who says a dealer rips them off, with additional markup, trys to sell their Maverick to Vroom for $500 profit.

Yeah, oh joy. Tis the season. Haven't you heard. This is all the meat packer's fault for price gouging. Simple explanation from all those simple minds. /sarc/

Good for you,

I am sort of in dilemma,
I own a 2018 ford edge(4 cyl. Every time I drive I feel 4cyl is underpowered)
So, I ordered maverick in Sep(while should arrive dealership next week).
Then Mach E made more sense and ordered it in Oct -(not schedule yet and no update when. But Mach E price went up by $2000 after I ordered it - so probably will stick with it)

My wild thinking is,
that I trade my ford edge and get the maverick, once my Mach E arrives (2-5 months) I can trade the maverick for it.
Only question is, will the used car prices be the same 6 months from now
