Great video! Presented very clearly! I just ordered this part yesterday, and I will definitely use your video when it comes time to install. Now I just need the truck that goes with the part! 😄 Hopefully I'll get that some time in the next couple of months.

Great. My tailgate assist has been collecting dust in a closet until my Maverick arrives so I'm looking forward to watching this when the time comes to install it. I enjoy your videos!

A quick step-by-step installation video for the Ford Accessories / DeeZee tailgate assist strut.

While I think the tailgate assist is neat, I don't think it is worth deleting a key tie-down on the tailgate that is needed for hauling plywood or other items that need to be securely tied down.
Also, it takes almost 3 seconds to fully open, it doesn't even take a second to open it by hand.

IF I need to haul anything that would require it to be tied down, it's a 5 min job to screw the tie down back on temporarily.
Having the tail gate assist on is a big plus when I have to open my tail gate 4-5 times EVERYDAY.

I'm sure someone here with metal fabricating skills could easily create a replacement tie down to replace the removed bottle opener tie down; One that will clear the DeeZee strut but still allow an anchor point.
Anyone.. Bueller, Bueller.....

I see your point. In my mind it was just a bottle opener anyway! I gained much more with the tailgate assist than I lost removing that piece.

Hey @Shay , why do some folks have interference issues? Some have mentioned the gas strut rubbing on the tail light retaining screw.
Thanks!

I'm sure a lot of it depends on how you use your truck. I don't mind not having the assisted lift. The tailgate is pretty light. I like the idea of having the additional tie down. When I went to the Ford dealership to pick up the bed cover I ordered, the box was pretty long. I strapped it down in the bed and on the tailgate. If you are in and out of the bed a lot daily I can see where it might be nice to not being bothered by a tailgate that just plops down all the time. I'm sure a modified loop could be fashioned as a work around if someone really wanted that extra point for a strap or bungee cord.

On mine I have about 3-4mm clearance. It appears however that if the strut were installed the wrong way with the case connecting at the bottom and the rod at the top, it could rub. This is because the case is thicker in diameter at the rod end and might be more likely to hit the screw.

I copied this from somebody who posted a similar video on here.

Install the plate in an angle and you won't have that clearance problem.
