Jasper is a recognized Remanufacturer for Ford. They are in Indiana. About $3100. Rebuilt, upgraded and verified on a Test Stand. Should be able to swap for $1000. Labor.

yep - I got a rebuilt trans from them and the price was reasonable and the trans was still no problems at all . I think the dealer didn't do much legwork on this - charging 7100$!? Jasper or junkyard would have been possibilities - there are definitely junked mavs out there and I can't imagine that the price at the yard would be anywhere near that lofty cost....

Do you have any proof of this? I would like to see it. I'm not saying your wrong just curious.

I have been doing Ford parts for over 10 years. I've never heard this before. 90% of the people I know in the industry stay away from Jasper unless its the ONLY option.

I have previously worked at Ford in Transmission Engineering. We established Jasper as the Official Ford remanufacturer as Ford Dealership mechanics created more problems than they fixed. Ford Dealers use your vehicle as the Test Stand for their work.
Jasper uses a real Test Stand to prove performance in all ranges of operation before shipping.

I believe you on all counts, particularly the dealership causing more issues than they solve. Modern transmissions are complex, and not many techs have the skill. I would use a transmission specialist 3rd party shop any day over an average Ford dealership tech.

To me the most likely reason a Ford dealership would dislike a Jasper rebuilt transmission would be if they make less money on it than rebuilding it themselves. And I think that's very likely.

My first call after the dealer said it was toast would've been to Ford Customer Service. Explain the issue and your disappointment that the trans couldn't live to at least 100K..and should be closer to 150K..even though it was serviced. I'd ask for a goodwill repair for customer relations. They certainly would want to keep their truck customers happy so they upgrade to larger trucks or other Ford products.
This approach has worked for me with Dodge where I had a rear end fail just out of warranty, the dealer was no help, but Dodge agreed to cover the repair if I paid $200. They worked it out with the dealer and I had a new rebuilt rear end in a Dodge that I bought used from the same dealer. So it is possible get this type of failure covered outside of warranty.

I will 100% agree with this. Some "Techs" I've known couldn't diag their way out of a wet cardboard box.

Yea so 23 Maverick XL Eco. 76,400.1 miles and my transmission cratered on me. had the fluid changed at 60k miles. yes I drive 150 miles a day in West Texas. I don't hot rod or even tow with it. luckily It died in Kerrville so my tow was only a couple miles, bad news a remanufactured transmission is $7300. This Sucks. no option or a new one.
Crap…sorry to hear. I just looked at Kelley Blue Book for trade-in value and priced it with standard options and it says trade values between 14,000 and $17,000. When is to see if a dealer would take your car and trade close to the numbers here as opposed to fixing the truck and having something else expensive die. with the amount of problems our trucks have dealt with, granted most of them are hybrid, have pretty fed off at Ford and ask them to chip in or pay for the transmission replacement.. certainly would not be buying another Ford product if they did not contribute they know their quality control is shit.

@Richard2212

Really, you retired 33 YEARS AGO. Do you really think Ford is still doing the same stuff from 33 YEARS AGO.

Your "knowledge" of Ford internal is no longer valid. You have been retired for FAR to long to claim you know the internal processes for Ford.

Look at the outside world. How many things have lasted 33 years without change.

I'm done with this/you.

no kidding. that was extremely rude and uncalled for.
How was this rude? I didn't call him names or insult his intelligence.

I said his inside knowledge of Ford was out of date.

He claimed to have "inside" info on said topic. When asked about proof of claim, he states
"I have previously worked at Ford in Transmission Engineering", but fails to mention it was OVER 3 decades ago. That is pretty important info for the claims made.
