When I first bought my Mav in July 2024 I complained about the engine lugging at just below 1500 rpm or so. Responses here were it wasn’t engine, could be transmission shudder at a certain rpm. I’m now sorry I brought it up cause I figured out it ONLY happens when I turn the traction control OFF. When it’s on no problem, when it’s off, rock and roll! Don’t know why but ever since I bought this truck I’ve always turned off trac control, prolly cause I listened to other idiots that told me to do so! So, all is good and thank you to all that responded to try and give good advice!

That's odd. I've never seen or heard the advice to turn traction control off. What was the logic behind that suggestion? For me, traction control is only off when I choose a drive mode that turns it off such as mud or sand. So, now I guess it makes sense that your results were always different from mine.

Anyway, I know this has been a frustration for you for a long time, so I'm glad you figured it out!! It's the little things like this that can be the difference between loving or hating a vehicle.

It wasn’t advice, I just found out for it on my own, while I was suspended from MTC for 3 weeks for being a bad boy, which was my fault, no disagreement there. No one told me to turn off traction control, I just did always like I always turn off start/stop. But I’ve fingered it out, all is good, and enjoying my MAV again!

I hated the lugging effect which i noticed on day one driving the truck home. Mine did it terribly with the traction control on. I do not believe I have ever turned it off.

After some research I discovered a Car & Driver Maverick review which complained about it. At the time some here said they never experienced it. I guess YMMV.

Someone here suggested running 91 Octane to help alleviate the issue. I tried it and it works for me. I also noticed an uptick in mileage and power so it was a win, win, win for me.

Ah, OK. When you said, "I’ve always turned off trac control, prolly cause I listened to other idiots that told me to do so!" made me think you were following advice.

Nah, just did it all by myself, nobody gave me any ‘good’ advice. 🤔

My 25 Lariat EB did this on the first tank of gas but dealer filled it with 87. I run Shell V Power 93 almost exclusively and it went away. YMMV

Nice that the price of gas went down quite a bit here in BC when they got rid of the carbon tax, can afford 93 octane again. Gonna start trying 94 octane from Chevron, see if it does anything.

I have fought similar symptoms since day one. Shudder, fluttering RPM, stuttering through intersections/town at low speed(no check engine light). Kept looking for chassis/driveline concerns, had a torque converter replaced, played with all the drive modes occasionally thinking I was onto the solution. Symptoms kept progressing and pushed my dealer with just 2000 miles left under powertrain warranty to find a solution. Mechanic did great checking it out, but with no codes and just a handful of "minor" symptoms, came up empty handed. Finally, Ford engineers responded and stated the following for the mechanic:

"This may be due to water within the EGR system. I’d recommend electrically disconnecting the EGR valve and reevaluating the concern. If the concern does go away, inspect the DPFE sensor and tube for water. If water is found replace the DPFE sensor, tube (where the DPFE sensor connects), you can attempt to blow out the components with shop air to remove the water. Otherwise, replace any components as needed."

Replaced the "DPFE" (part number: K2GZ-9J433-C), which isn't made in the lines, but mounted on top of the actual EGR and has two rubber hoses reading two different pressures to my understanding. This has returned my truck to feeling brand new with no symptoms present (this was also apparent when I electrically disconnected the EGR valve itself to test this system/theory). Part was NOT covered under powertrain even though all the other emission components in that system appear they would have been covered. Still can't believe how much trash I had talked on my ecoboost/8-speed, but again it seems the DPFE replacement was the answer to all my issues!

What is the function/purpose of turning off traction control?
