24 XLT FX4 2.0 eco boost. Anyone else experiencing that as the trans shifts from 1 to 4 and if you keep speed steady the trans seems to ‘lug’ until you take foot off the gas or push on it to speed up. It doesn’t seem to want to downshift just ‘lugs’. Truck feels awful during this, shakes lightly and sounds awful. It’s brand new dammit! Another reason why I like manual trans.
This a feature, not a bug. It is A turbo motor and is designed to wait until the turbo spools up, so you can ride the torque wave once boost builds. It’s pretty easy to control. If I know I want a downshift, I just go to half throttle and it will for sure downshift. But keeping the revs low and using boost is more efficient than immediately downshifting. My concern is about the shaking and making bad noises. Mine does not do that. It just purrs along under boost, being happy as can be. I also have a 24 ecoboost fx4. As others mentioned, you can use tow haul to get a more aggressive shift pattern.

I do find that the trend with Fords is to get into the taller gears as fast as possible to keep the RPM lower and squeeze out a little more mileage. Depending on driving conditions, it can be meaningless or a huge annoyance.

My F-150 was particularly annoying in this regard, especially in my neighborhood which is very hilly. It would get up into a taller gear and then lug the engine excessively trying to go up the next hill.

I put a tune on it from 5-Star and besides giving me some better performance, it really tamed the transmission behavior. Nothing outrageously different, but it shifted a little later, gave much better performance on the type of roads around here and my style of driving.

Tow-Haul mode might help a bit, and sport mode would also (I added sport mode to my FX4 with ForScan) though they sometimes tend to downshift a lot more.

I've recently started to notice much more lugging and low RPMs when cruising at low speed. at 10,000 miles now and had the truck for 6 months. Never noticed it before the last week or so. Probably going to have the dealer take a look, really doesn't feel good. Def. not CV axels too lol.

In the past I noticed it would cruise in a very high gear and very low RPMs (much lower than I would do in my manuals), but like others said, it sounded fine, and felt to vibrations or anything so thought it was great until recently.

Please let us know when this happens, what the dealer says and does, curious as I had the same problem.

Sorry, I meant let us know when you take it to the dealer, and their response, not when the lugging starts, but you knew that.😏

i didn't notice the lugging in my '24 EcoB until, say, after break-in period or perhaps several thousand miles. can the tranny be reprogrammed to shift somewhere in between Regular and Sport mode? to that point would it invalidate the warranty?
