I'll start by admitting that I'm kind of paranoid about cooling, having lost more than one vehicle over the years to heat.

Actual towing with the maverick will be a non-issue: the things I would want to tow will be over 4k, and there's a bigger truck for me coming in the wake of the maverick anyway.

But the extra transmission cooling and bigger fan sure sound tempting.

The real tire isn't that important, as this won't generally be the distance driver (that will be classics and/or the full size truck).

Are there downsides to this package?

I assume the lariat still has a hitch without it--just for a bicycle, as after the "incident" a couple of years ago, I will no longer ride it to the wetlands! I'm done with riding on streets!

Other than cost up front and maybe higher maintenance costs should the oil cooler need replacing, none that I can think of.

I always opt for a factory towing package if offered just for the extra cooling capacity.

Only downside could be that the rear gear ratio is lower. May be slight hit to mpg. This is on the ecoboost. Don't know about the hybrid.

And the hitch comes stock on all trims but the XL (it's a $100 add on for that trim). so yes, on the Lariat, you'd get that either way. I don't currently need to pull over 1500, but a small travel trailer might be in my future. So between having it and not needing it vs. needing it and not having it, and the upgraded cooling, and the $100 already off for it (as I'd want the hitch either way) it was a simple choice for me.

By ordering the 4k package, you will get a better resell value. Even if you don't tow, I recommend getting it. I see no negatives IMHO. Extra cooling is a good thing!

I ordered a 2025 Hybrid AWD with the 4K package even if I never ( now) plan on using it. I was after better cooling too but I learned that the hybrid does not get the larger radiator

The 2022 XLT without the luxury package did not come with hitch.

Fx4 package has larger radiator and larger fan for additional cooling . 4k towing option is definitely worth it imo . unfortunately was not available on mine as a dealer order and at msrp at the time . Took it anyway and happy with it .

Ford Maverick towing package just for extra cooling? 20240521_091725

I think my FX4 came with CoPilot 360. I am not sure because I never turned parts of it on or I turned it off or put it on minimum My wife hates it on her Edge, so why use it on my truck.

I got it on my 24. I don't tow often and I don't plan to start suddenly piling on the towing miles but I figured for the few hundred bucks it's better to have and not need than one day want it.

One thing I notice with the 4k towing package and the extra cooling capacity, now that the morning temps are dropping into the 30's, it's starting to struggle to hold it's heat up. Normal is 4 marks on the temp gauge, but on the cooler mornings (and they will get much colder as the winter comes in), it takes 4 miles or so at 55-60 to get up to temperature, then out on the interstate at 70 it drops back to three marks lite on the temp gauge. It comes back up when I pull off onto a side road, but I can already see when it gets down around zero there may be an issue. First year with the Maverick, so will see..

you could artificially block the cool air coming in. I used to work on old diesel equipment and they had these thermostatically controlled "fins" in front of the radiator. May be someone should do that again
