I have a lady at TonneauCovers working with Bakflip on my leak issue. I had to send them links to the different videos I took of it leaking and I will share any news I get back from them. Be it good or bad.
BAKflip is sending me a new tonneau cover and has given me instructions to drill holes in the old one to continue my 5-year warranty. It should arrive before New Year's day.

In the meantime, due to all the rain we are experiencing I went to the hardware store, and for less than 3 bucks I bought some of that 1/8 inch thick by 1/4 inch wide weather strip that goes on doors and windows. I applied it on the cover side of the fold-ups where the rubber strip is supposed to touch. So far it has drastically reduced the water coming in. Maybe doing that will help others. I might suggest that BAKflip, add a 10-foot piece in the installation package.

I have a ford dealer installed tonneau cover. I had water in the bed, they had Ford give me a replacement cover. After five weeks of waiting they replaced the cover. We had heavy rain last night, now leaking worse than the old cover.

Is this the dealer issue or are ford covers this bad?

I will attach pictures, let me know you thoughts

thank you

I have the backflip FX 4 that I installed myself and I don’t see nearly that much water after a car wash after you wash it I do blow the seams off and trifold it up and let the water drain through small pipes you had to add to let water exit the vehicle at the drain holes as provided in the directions. A little bit of water gets in at the tailgate area but there’s somethings wrong there that’s way too much water for a hard trifold to let through. If you get inside with a bright flashlight and shine it at the edges and see light, it means the rails were not installed correctly. Generic weatherstripping is also your friend in the tailgate area.I

I repositioned my hard trifold bed cover and it is still leaking at the corners by the cab. I'm considering just filling those corners on the inside with clear silicone. I really don't plan on completely removing the cover. Plus I would think the silicone would peel off easily if I did. What do you folks think ?

That may be the company line today but when I bought my cover they talked water tight. Not water proof but tight, and no definition of how dry you would be.

I am not expecting mine to be waterproof. I plan on getting a couple to Rubbermaid totes (or next best brand with the best fit). I am adding one for more security not so much for the weather proofing.

I wonder if the leaking has anything to do with the giant gaps between the tailgate and the bed?

I’ve had 5-6 bed covers on various Ford trucks. They all leaked. My last truck before the Mav, I splurged and bought a $1500 cover and had it professionally installed it leaked worse than the cheapie I’d installed myself. I went back to a cheapie on my maverick and it leaks. I pulled it off and sealed the gaps in the bed cap where the pieces fit together I even added extra weather stripping at front of the bed, it still leaks.

That is where I'm experiencing my water intrusion. I tried using Tailgate Seal, but I couldn't get it set correctly. When I closed the tailgate it would bunch up. Most likely installer error (first truck), but I'm going to eventually try some household weatherproofing and see if that works better.

Mine is not leaking at the tailgate, but I think I have discovered my leak problem at the front of the bed. After 2 heavy rains in the 3 1/2 weeks I have had my cover on, I kept thinking it was from the front bed corners, but the corners seem to be very flush and tight against the seals, then I noticed on the bed rails of the Maverick there is a groove up front near the cab. It leaves a little channel on each side below the seals for water to easily channel into the bed. I'm going to plug them with some black silicone. We are expecting rainstorms tomorrow, so will find out.

Yes that is one place that mine was leaking.

i used black plumbers putty and did stop that leak but the ford “brand“ cover is junk

Find a different manufacture.

It rained here, still a light rain. Checked inside the bed and more water than ever. About a third of the bed. Water is dripping from the areas I thought I plugged, and from the middle fold of the trifold on one side. This is defeating the purpose I bought the hard trifold. Security is fine. I need to keep my drums I have in gig bags back there. No way with this situation. It's actually a steady drip in those areas. Back to the drawing board. At least I can see where it's leaking.

Well it rained most of the night and still today I checked my bed and more water than ever. About 1/4 of the bed up front with standing water. I could see it dripping from where I thought I had plugged it yesterday, and leaking on the sides of the middle trifold. Damn.... No way I can keep my drums in their gig bags back there when it rains. Maybe I can double line the weatherstripping, and I had just plugged those little rails with weatherstripping to see. Obviously didn't work. My bed mat is holding the water. Going to pull it out to dump the water. It's still drizzling here.

I agree with the water leaking in the center of the FORD cover. Do all covers leak in the center not just along the sides?

Mine just leaks on the edges where the cover wasn't pulling down tight. I can flip up the cover and at every one of the catches there is an indent on the rubber seal but not anywhere else.

That is why I put a 1/8 inch weather strip on the cover and so far I only get leaks at that place you mentioned up front and in the tailgate along the corners and where it can blow in.
