Tonneau cover leaking

I have the Truxedo Truxport soft roll cover from Ford that I installed myself and on the heaviest of rains I'll get a little drip near the tailgate corner.

One thing I have noticed with the maverick compared to my F150 is that the maverick bed is connected to the body where the F150 the bed is completely separate piece and has a split between the bed and back window where rain can fall and not get into the bed. I believe this is why a lot of tonneau covers get wet in the bed since the water sits between the back window and cover and water will always find any hole it can when there is enough of it.

Don't expect a completely dry bed with a tonneau cover. Yeah, there are exceptions, but not the rule. And the ones that are have usually had extra sealing material added - stuff that most dealers (or their accessory installers) just won't take the time to do.

An SUV might've suited your needs better.

All of this. A tonneau will cover the bed but it takes some determined effort to completely seal it. The top edges of the sides of the bed have some irregularities that make it hard to perfectly seal against it.

Sometimes you can reduce the leakage just by cranking the tonneau down harder but there are limits to what you can do without getting creative with the weatherstripping.

Or, you can just compromise. I use a couple of folding top plastic totes to hold stuff. The leakage coming around from the edges can't get into the totes so the important stuff stays bone dry.

Also, the new Telluride is really nice.

Most Covers come with drain tubes that take the water out the bottom of the bed. So there doesn't have to be a way off between the bed and the truck. The rails drain themselves. Or at least mine are supposed to. But I have an issue there as well.

Working with BakFlip on a leaky trifold. The cover can move up and down in between the weather-tight hinges and pump water into the bed as I drive around in the rain. If my bed looked as wet as the OP pictures I would be happy. Mine looks soaked and running all over the bed compared to his.

I agree, heavy rain always finds a way. I also own a Jeep Wrangler. I'm used to leaks. I'm installing the Ford Hard roll-up cover in the next few days. I don't expect it to be leak proof.

I have a ford dealer installed tonneau cover. I had water in the bed, they had Ford give me a replacement cover. After five weeks of waiting they replaced the cover. We had heavy rain last night, now leaking worse than the old cover.

Is this the dealer issue or are ford covers this bad?

I have the economy version of tonneau - Gator Tri-fold...2 1/2 years and no water is getting in. But cover came with a rubber self adhesive trim piece that attaches to the bottom of the tonneau. and so for has kept all water out.

their answer is the Tonneau cover only is there to protect you from wind, I have a normal amount of water in the bed. I can understand drips but when it fills the depressions to the top, that is too much water.

What is a better cover than the Ford hard tri fold?

I have the tri-fold Bakflip MX4 and when I first got it, it leaked at least as bad as yours does. I replaced the weather strip that goes along the front edge, and used about an entire tube of black silicon sealant along the front, sides, and areas on the top front of the cover to get it to mostly stop leaking.

Currently I have two leak spots - near the middle of the rearmost hinge point where the cover flips up, and around the left rear corner near the tailgate (the gap between the tailgate and the truck body side). Not sure either of these are fixable but fortunately they are not bad leaks.

I had ordered on my '23 Maverick that was not built the factory hard tri fold. I dropped it for the '24 order (being built this week!). I saw a Youtube video that Tim Bartz had posted on how to install one so I am doing that myself. Here is the video and maybe you can see if there is some adjustment you can make..

I have a Ford hard rollup. The first one leaked. The second one leaks. I added some moulding. Still leaking, but not that much. I now put everything in plastic bins, to prevent the items from getting wet.

I have a lady at TonneauCovers working with Bakflip on my leak issue. I had to send them links to the different videos I took of it leaking and I will share any news I get back from them. Be it good or bad.

I bought this hard cover and installed it myself. It leaks pretty bad at the corners at the front by the cab, and a little on one side of the center panel. We are having a monsoon here in FL this weekend. I'm going to reposition it after this weather blows over. I am determined to get this thing leak proof. Will really check the seal all the way around and figure this out. Any suggestions are appreciated. I may have it to far up on the weather stripping.

Had capper on F150 that leak around front edges . crawled into bed with caulk gun with 100% clear silicon caulk . problem solved . surface has to be dry .
