It looked to me like it was scorched the worst in the 12V terminal area. I don't have a hybrid but I think there's a high voltage connection and high current fuses in that spot.

I hope your relative did not modify anything electrical under the hood.

If my Maverick caught on fire, I have a feeling someone might ask about the 4ga wire with the 60A fuse. I have also seen many YT videos where people splice in fairly high current accessories without soldering or shrink tubing. Lighting vendors. It's not uncommon and it's usually fine... until it isn't.

Might be sitting at copart already. Once insurance pays out, they own it and the other SUV. The truck behind is older and probably not full coverage.

Homeowners does not cover vehicles. They will cover spare parts. If the house caught fire it might cover the Liability only vehicle. But that's not what happened.

I can't speak for all 50 states, but in the state I reside, motor vehicles with registration are specifically excluded from homeowner's insurance. it would be a comprehensive auto claim which will be a problem if the older vehicle is liability-only and separate fire claim on the house.

I misread my policy. It basically covers the loss of motorized carts, etc.

Nobody said it was recall related. The two fire recalls were for issues while running. This one was parked for the night and cold.

Another member here had the same thing happen a few months ago, engine compartment fire while parked over night.... totally destroyed by the fire

The Hyundai Santa Cruz is catching fire while parked due to water in the wiring harness for the tow hitch. I wonder if they use the same manufacturer for the harness. You would think if that were the case there would be a recall on the Fords for the same issue.
It does bring to light that it could be the possilility its related to water shorting something out somewhere.

No, that is not how they did the surveys...Obviously, that would not make any sense at all. A majority of animosity toward electric vehicles, like many sad situations in this world, comes from a simple lack of understanding and knowledge on the subject. The gas to electric car ratios were the same. IN other words, they sampled 400k electric cars and 400K gas cars. Capisce?

We all know how concerned the principal countries that mine these necessary battery components are about the environment. The impact their unregulated machinery and processes are having on the planet is not without great cost. You can bet they Are doing this for One reason, $$$$$$! What ever collateral damage results from their excavation, transportation, etc. is absolutely of NO concern to them, period.

Well insurance paid out $32k for the truck. Truck was $22k new.

If fossil fuels were not used to produce electricity, and alternatives were more prevalent, most pollution would cease to exist. In 2022, about %60 of electricity comes from petroleum products. Hydro in some states is more.

Not that I'm aware of. Insurance paid the claim, and took the truck.
