This is pretty much every picture I have of the car that made me MaverickMan74. All my other pictures and videos of the build were lost digitally. I even had a pic of a 150ft burnout I made. Such a sweet car. Definitely not a crappy 70s car. They had style, good suspension, and sufficient technology for their era. Hell the 302 2bbl it had when I got it got me 18mpg on one tank. They made alot of them and were very popular in sales for their day.

I had a red Ford Maverick car back in the late '70's. It was used when I bought it from my step brother. It was a good car...until I hit a deer on the thruway from Dunkirk, NY to Buffalo with my girlfriend at the time when we were going to a Billy Joel concert. That was the end of the Maverick.

i bought mine from my brother for 250 bucks when I was 16. I only had my license for a few weeks. It was an ugly puke green color and an enemic engine but I thought it was the greatest thing in the world.

Hey, that place (Wright State University) looks familiar.

I could only afford a 74 brown 6 cyl. three on the tree manual everything Maverick when I started my firs REAL job. It even had a tan landau half roof. Six hundred dollars for that beauty. I traded it in for a slightly used 79 Honda Accord (way better car)that was a silver hatchback.

Yeah thats down below the soccer fields by Nutter Center. And also at Kaufman Dam. I lived right across the highway access to the base(which is a helluva road to fly on coming north on 675 and take that base access ramp instead of going to the mall exit. It cuts down under the highway then behind the red roof inn. I have never seen an cop on that road. It exits down to my old neighborhood "Lil Kentucky". These shots were all when I was considering selling it fund my move back to Maui. Which I eventually did. Nothing except my wife or the ocean ever made me feel as good as that car.

I had a 76 Comet, the Mercury version of the old Maverick. The hood went on forever, haha. It was a fun car to drive in good weather, but just a sled in the snow. My sister ended up sliding off an overpass in a snowstorm and totalling it. Thankfully she was ok.

It was an awful flat baby blue paint. Gawd I hated most of the 70's paint colors.
I drove one like that, same color, and that hooooooood!

Classy classic. Great looking car. I love the twin hood scoops and was thinking that some inventive 3D printer guy might make something like it for the indentions at the rear of the new Maverick hood.

These are the hood indentions that I think were made for twin faux backwards facing hood vents in black.

Isnt that the mystery spot where water pools at a certain speed in the rain? That spot must have pressure otherwise the water couldnt stay there. It could be an excellent spot for a vent that brings in air to be ducted to the intercooler or blow past the turbo. Maybe it could have block off activated when the wipers are on though.

I think the Maverick Grabber was one of the best looking hoods of the 70s. I would actually love to see the new performance variant of the Maverick be called the Grabber. I mean it is a truck so you do use it to grab things. So it makes sense. The Grabber style vents would look so good with the roof and tailgate spoilers and have a symmetry with the dual exhausts on the spy shots. Just give it a 330hp 2.3 and a manual, standard 4k gearing and coolers. I wonder if it could hang with a 2nd gen lightning?

I've had my XL for 5 months and 11 days and have not driven it in the rain yet, so I didn't know what pools there. Considering the hood shape and the rises on both sides of the indents it stands to reason that water would pool there. I've not given it much thought. But still a good place for scoops or vents.

Given the HP to weight ratio, it should hang with a 2nd Gen. Lightning. I would love a Maverick Grabber ST Variant with the 2.3 and 6 speed manual.

The original Maverick was built as Ford's entry-level "economy" car. Ford was starting to lose sales to import brands and positioned Maverick to appeal to younger buyers. Ford leaned heavily into the base MSRP of $1,995 in its marketing and advertising. Any of this sounding vaguely familiar?

Interestingly, Ford produced 579,000 Mavericks for 1970, its first model year. It's looking like they'll be lucky to produce 1/5 that number of 2022 Mavericks 😐

Thats the dream! Even better if for dropped a hundred pounds with aluminum on every panel that isnt part of the unibody structure.

Yeah water pools there at certain speeds, there is a video of it somewhere. But to keep the water there it would have have air pressure around it. Even just using that pressurized "ram" air to flow through a transmission and oil cooler package would be pretty cool. Functional aero is the best aero.

They could probably build that many if power windows, power locks, multi speaker radio, and A/C were still considered a luxury package. I still consider those as luxury. Basically if there is 50/50 chance of it not working in 10 years, its a luxury item.

The classic Maverick was a huge success for the 70s a decade marred by setbacks. So glad I got the chance to own one. Maybe one day I when the world has gone electric I will take my old beat up VB FX4 and use its powertrain to resurrect the last OG Maverick.

My personal license plate when it arrives 3RD MAV to celebrate my 2 previous Maverick Grabbers I purchased for my Children when they started driving. I bought them used because they were a heavy car and the best air bag is a lot of metal. My daughter was T-Boned and the passenger side door was at the driver side transmission tunnel. She walker away with some bruises on her left side from the driver door. Purchased a duplicate of Mav 1 as Mav 2. Mav 2 was with us for 6 years. My son started driving at 16 4 years after my daughter. My daughter was a jr in college when Mav 1 met it’s demise come on Mav 2. My son managed to take the under carriage out of Mav 2 shortly after graduating high school. The Mavs were really responsive and I enjoyed driving them when the kids weren’t looking. I had a sick way of teaching the kids how to drive on ice. I took the kids to the high school parking lot before being plowed. I run the speed up to 50 and hit the brakes hard. I would explain what to do then have them do the same. Love my Mav’s.

My Mom had a Maverick two-door coupe as her first car as soon as she moved here Stateside in the mid 70s. Might’ve been yellow or orange, going to dig for that photo. She’s now almost 70 and when I told her about new Maverick truck, she was like “Maverick? I used to drive one. It’s a truck now?”
