To answer someone's post about dealer employees ordering so the dealer has "stock". I was told at my dealer Germain Ford Beavercreek Ohio, that NO employees were allowed to order a 23 Maverick from them. I was kind of shocked by that quote. My dealer was fair and honored our deal without any shenanigan's at closing.

I wish all dealers acted like this one.

****We hear far too often the dealer saying "someone backed out of the deal" and they now have a Mav available. BS! What we don't see is the reason someone backed out. Too often the deal changed from the time of the order and the original buyer told the dealership to go pound sand.
I bought a Maverick locally that was a rejected order. The dealer told me exactly why: The truck had the air bag recall, Ford had no parts, and it sat for months at the dealership unable to be sold. When the parts finally came in, and they had it ready to go, he (or she) had already replaced their other vehicle and didn't want it.

I had another one lined up to purchase from a dealer in another state. In that case, the person who ordered it could not get financing when the truck came in... Then at the last minute (after I had already bought airline tickets to fly in and pick up the Maverick), they found a way to buy it. Sucked for me, but it WAS their truck, after all. I applaud the dealership for standing by the MSRP deal with them, even though I had agreed to buy it with some ADM.

There are a ton of reasons why and there's examples on this forum of each and every one. Shitty dealer jacking the price, not honoring price protection, "can't find" private offer, truck sold out from underneath them, dropped options against the customers wishes, didn't correctly order/reorder the proper options. Plenty of people ordered multiple trucks from more than one dealer and bought the first one that came in, others backed out. The list goes on as to why there are Mavericks on dealer lots.

This may help understand what some dealers are doing. I ordered a 2023 Maverick XL from my local dealer, Dealer A. I "preordered" and gave them a deposit. I was trying to get my sales guy to place my order Friday after the order banks opened. He insisted he talked to his manager and they were NOT open. Another dealer in my area contact at that time and asked me if I wanted to place an order. I cancelled my order with Dealer A and placed an identical order with Dealer B. So I had one order for a Maverick XL hybrid with Dealer A that I thought was cancelled and an order for a Maverick XL with Dealer B.

December I get 2 emails saying my order was delayed due to supply constraints and Ford loves me blah blah blah I didn't think much of it. A few days later I get an email saying my XL was being built and would be delivered to Dealer A. Dealer A never cancelled the order. I called Ford Customer Service to let them know the truck should not be built. Customer service said there was nothing they could do and contact Dealer A and see if could get my order back.

I went to Dealer A and the new sales guy was as slimy as they come. He said I could get my truck back with a few addendums. Nitrogen tires for $250. Wheel locks for $225 etc. Basically $2700 worth of overpriced garbage plus a markup. I left.

Dealer B who is VERY straight up called me 2 weeks ago and said they had a customer who did not want their order and did I want to pick it up. It had 95% of what I wanted and I took it.

Current situation. The truck that was built for the order I cancelled was delivered to the dealer and probably sold for a $4K to $5K markup. I got someone else's order. The order I really placed for and XL Hybrid has not be scheduled for build and my never be built. I did not cancel it because I have a friend who might want to step into my order. The thing that kills me is an XL Hybrid was built on a cancelled order and Ford did NOTHING.

I love my new Maverick but Ford management has some work to do.

If customer cancels order before scheduling then the right thing for the dealer to do is cancel order. Otherwise everything else is fair game.
That isn't going to happen. Dealers are scrambling for vehicles to sell, new and used.

Ford made dealers submit verification (driver's license) that there was a real customer tied to an order when originally made (so dealers wouldn't try to buy a pile of stock), but that is as far as they went.

If, for whatever reason, the validated orderer decided they didn't want their order, Ford wouldn't keep it if the dealership still wanted it.

Personally, I think Ford should require the dealer to submit some documentation when the original orderer was declining the truck when they sell it to another. Might have stopped that Ford dealer in Tennessee who sold a truck to his cousin and screwed the waiting customer. But I don't run Ford and it doesn't work that way.

Oh ,I get it . In my business, I would look after my customer who may otherwise miss out on his order. I was a first hour order at this dealer on the 15th sept.

Right what should be and what is are two different things most the time.

This pretty is simple. dealership sells him one of lot trucks at msrp by forfeiting his ordered truck. Ordered truck if built gets sold with markup. Keeps customer orders happy and still selling a truck with markup in the end

With the news that Silicon Valley Bank in CA is being seized by the FDIC, I tend to think all of these dealers are going to be screwed here soon. Silicon Valley Bank serves a lot of tech companies who are being told come back Monday for any money. This is just the start. If these companies can't pay workers, and worked are forced to drain cash from their accounts, this causes a bank run and doesn't help anything. It's about to get exciting. At this point, I am glad I'm still waiting to get scheduled. The interest rates are ridiculous right now.

The one problem I have heard with that is the dealer gets two knocks against them from Ford. The first knock is the truck on the lot didn't go to original order holder and then the forfeited truck in your example then becomes a second knock because it doesn't go to original order holder either.

FMC has changed this. Dealers have little to worry about. Name mismatch is acceptable under a few circumstances (dealer does not need to prove), and 2023s did not require COVP.
