I know this might be a biased place to ask if the Maverick is right for my needs but I was hoping to get some 2 cents from you guys.

I’m a home builder/contractor. I don’t build the house, but organize and manage all the trades. I do some of my own electrical, minor framing, insulation, landscaping. The majority of materials are delivered but on occasion I have to run out to grab some lumber, insulation, masonry items, most of which I suppose can be put in a smaller utility trailer.

Currently I have an F150 and the bed is empty 90% of the time. I like the Maverick because its an easy daily driver, hybrid motor and it’s price point. My F150 can do everything I need it to when required, although like I said 90% of the time it might as well be a car. I just don’t know if the Maverick is suited for somebody in my position.

So I’m just seeing if anyone out there is similar to me and can provide some feedback.

While I'm in IT and work from home, I found myself needing the transportation ability of a larger vehicle (Currently driving a Civic Coupe). My wife is fed up with me borrowing her Civic Hatch to transport stuff, so I began the search for a new vehicle, looking at trucks. Found the Maverick in October 2021 and placed an order.

I'm thinking I won't be using the bed most of the time just like you, but the ability to go to HD and pick up plywood or drywall or insulation and not having to deal with renting a truck is freeing.

It's small, fuel conscious, and has the ability to transport larger items when you need it - can't go wrong IMO!

1) Will you ever need to put more than 1500 lbs in the bed?
2) Since it will hold a 4x8 sheet of plywood with the tail gate on an angle, is there anything bigger than that which you would need to carry?

The Mav can do everything an F150 can do (short of heavy towing), tho pending the actual task, may take multiple trips.

The other big compromise (to an F150) is less room inside, which may or may not be important to you.

If you're only worried about the Mav's ability to be a "truck", it does quite well, and punches way above it's weight class.

Sounds like for you, the Mav would be fine most of the time, with limited scenarios where the F150 might be better.

That's a call only you can make.

I guess the question to ask is what does the F-150 do or not do that makes you want to change.

The contractor that built my house drove a Tesla. And outside of plywood he hauled just about everything else in that thing. Miter saw setup, carpenter tools, bags of cement, you name it. Most major deliveries from suppliers were delivered on the supplier's truck, or on the sub's trucks. It worked for him.

If you want a smaller, more fuel-efficient truck than the F-150 that will do most of what the F-150 now does for you I'd say the Maverick would fill the bill. But so would a Ranger, and those are going to be a lot more available.

One thing I would automatically do in your case if you get a Maverick is add racks so you can put longer material up on the rack instead of sticking out the back over the tail gate.

I have done plenty of Lowes/Home depot runs in my Mav right down to 1500lbs of Tile mortar and level quick. Its great for the running around you need to do. However, Its not the end all as it is limited. When that happens to me I just fire up the ole 350 and Im all set. The fuel savings alone between the two made the Mav worth it.
