Since I'm ignorant, what does the lift gain you aside from clearance? And is there not a trade off in stability?

You're right on both counts, more unstable and, more specifically tire clearance which will allow bigger rims/tires which in turn will allow for more ground clearance, but honestly it looks like the limiting factor is the wheel well, even with a lift it looks like a 70/75 sidewall is maxing out the space and you're gonna need to start cutting and trimming fenders/panels. Guys are clearing 245/70/17 on stock suspension and wheels which honestly is good enough, adds like an inch of ground clearance. Maybe in a few months well start seeing other types of lifts than these "spacers" that you throw on top of your shock body/spring, things like longer springs and shocks with longer control arms/tie rods. Let's be real though its a small city truck by the time you do all that, you'll have thrown enough into the truck to buy another one, better to wait and just buy the maverick raptor when it comes out.

That was a lot of words for a gal who started this with "I don't know jack" :D

I don't see this truck being much for off-roading to the point I'd need additional clearance so I guess I'll file this under the column of "shit I ain't gonna worry about". Thanks for the education!

Just got my new shoes installed. Bfg Ko2 in 245/65r17. I can confirm I don't notice any rubbing and I think it looks a lot meaner. The tires do seem to stick out just enough to spray dirt on the side even in just my short drive home. That being said I do intend on adding wheel spacers and the rough country 2 inch lift in the future so I'm sure it's only going to get dirtier 😎

Although I think (and have seen) you could definitely squeeze 70s or 75s in there but I wanted to keep my speedo and mpg as close to stock as I could so I think these were a good compromise.

I haven't paid too much attention, I'd assume it dropped 1-2mpg just because they're heavier and wider than the originals. Also road noise is slightly more noticeable but that doesn't bother me I always listen to music anyway :)

I've been debating which tires to buy and dropped a couple of options into a sheet to compare and then figured I might as well put a bunch more images in as maybe it will be helpful to others when choosing tires.

I did my best to gather the correct tire and size information but if any of these are your truck and I got it wrong please let me know.

75's make the tallest truck and with a 2" lift front, 1" lift back and looks the best (IMO) BUT SPEEDO GOES WACKO!

Thanks for posting this info! 245/65/17s are the sweet spot without a lift.
I put the BFGoodrich trail terrains in this size. Fantastic tire. Although, especially the front tires, the stick out ever so slightly enough a lot of debris and mud, snow, etc. get flung up along the sides of the truck. To protect the longevity of the paint I did order some mud flaps, something to note.
