Tailgate Plugs

I had seen them on the Amazon and saved them. Today I was playing around on Maker's world for my 3d printer and I found a file and printed them in about 45 minutes. Would have been quicker but I realized I had to print six of the smaller ones. They turned out awesome! Fits perfect. Only cost is like $.50 in material.

I don't like the small ones as there is no way for water and moisture to escape, but I dropped the tailgate and installed the larger covers prior to the photo in my avatar before the truck ever left the lot.

I thought the same thing but the print I found had a slanted opening for Water to escape. I will try to get a picture.

I installed a Bedrug liner like in the picture below. It has a strong mesh between the bed and the tailgate so no debris issues.

I thought the same thing but the print I found had a slanted opening for Water to escape. I will try to get a picture.

So, they partially plug the drain holes. I don't see the point of doing that.

Looking at the photos and also the statement that there are channels behind the little plugs, it means (to me) that the plugs will prevent the ingress of debris from what you may have loaded in the back of your truck, into the cavity in the tail gate. Be it rocks, gravel, dirt, mulch or what have you.

It was my concern that water could not escape the cavity area as well. I still feel it may be necessary to pull the little plugs to make sure there is no accumulation of dirt etc that could block the holes, especially in areas where we experience winters/freezing temperatures.

They do look cool of course!

It seems to me that it would be easier to not have the plugs there and just flush them out on occasion to ensure drainage. I suppose it depends on what you're hauling in the bed, but I always protect this area with a tarp when I'm hauling anything that would plug the holes. Road dust/grime will plug the small holes in the plugs much quicker than the larger factory drain holes.

Love my bedrug, makes it easy on the knee's!!!! One of the best purchases I've made for my truck. As info, it looks like carpet but it's polypropylene construction is entirely waterproof, stain-proof, and chemical-resistant. Also Mold and Mildew proof.

If you should ever carry anything in bulk in your bed, like mulch, dirt, gravel or whatever. When you sweep it out, it will end up inside the tailgate because of these holes. They are there as vents, drains and to run the tailgate lock and camera wiring through. The plugs are intended to keep this debris out.

Yup,I put it on temporarily when hauling a load, then take it off for ventilation when done.

They have slant to them. Water moisture can get out but it's hard for dirt to get back in. I know it's not going to be perfect but it helps.
