* Please note: This topic is in "Bed and Roof Mods" and not in "Issues, Repairs, Warranty, TSB, Recalls"

As the title suggests, the cables are too long and the tailgate is not level with the bed. It is also not level with the wheel wells when in the half-up position.

People have pointed this out before reacting to pictures and I assumed it was optical illusion but my Sola don't lie.

Thanks, I've noticed this in pictures too. Does not seem right to me. I think they screwed up making all of the cables. I wish we had an official word from Ford about this.

Since they rate the tailgate as a supporting structural member there could be a case that it is unsafe not to be level.

Wouldn't that be a biatch if people didn't get their Mav's due to a tailgate cable recall!

I would gladly pay for a replacement set, but who is going to make one? Ford would have to admit failure if they did and it's a pretty small item for the aftermarket.

I did notice that when I got mine, but….. 🤷🏻‍♂️ idk what to do about it, so it is what it is.
If everyone has their service department open a ticket on it, that should get Ford's attention.

If it doesn't affect function- Who cares? I've had 2 Rancheros, 4 Rangers, 2 Chevy LUVs and a Datsun 1200 pickup. Also a Chevy 2500 and current F-150. Never occured to me to even check if they were level- not seeing a problem here. I only care if they close properly and sit flush in closed position where it would really become noticeable.

I have owned a lot of trucks in my days and have never seen it before. It is annoying at a minimum and does not evenly support anything cantilevered out the back. I generally will use it in the half cocked position for lumber anyway.

No not a big deal but I will not be able to unnotice it. I am a finishing carpenter by trade so these things bother me.

With this short little 4 1/2 foot bed they are using the tailgate as part of the bed to support the load. If the tailgate is lower than the bed it will not support rigid materials, as shown with the metal beam level in the picture.

No thanks, I'm good with the Maverick I ordered. I may actually find an old 1964-66 Ranchero and convert to BEV once conversions are more common and affordable with strong service and support.

Not a big deal but I’ve never seen this issue anywhere either. Have to ask……how effing difficult is it to make a truck with a level tailgate? A true engineering feat! Hope this type of attention to detail is not reflected elsewhere on something really important like, say, the powertrain or the airbags or………

Is there a chance this was done intentionally? Getting into a tailgate/sitting on a tailgate with a slight lean angle is easier. I noticed it on mine as well, but it was actually easier for me to load the dirtbike in the back with this slight adjustment. Just a thought
