Tailgate Hole

So I take a load of yard debris to the dump, and sweep out the bed when I'm done. That's when I notice this giant access hole in the bottom of the tailgate that is collecting all the debris I was trying to sweep out. How have you solved this issue?

My Lariat looks the same as yours. Tape it shut when doing the same type of job again then remove it?

I discovered that hole after hauling a load of gravel. Now my tailgate is full of rocks. Every once in a while I'll find a rock on the bumper, so the tailgate might be empty by in a few years.

My Lariat looks the same as yours. Tape it shut when doing the same type of job again then remove it?

Is that on the bottom of the tailgate? I don’t have my truck yet, but I don’t like that. Can someone send a picture showing where it is at? I agree with @LtCasual this may need some 3D printing designs. If someone can convince ford to build my truck, I will get right on it. @Ford Motor Company? Are you listening? I need my truck so I can take measurements and test fit.

It is pretty much dead center of the tailgate. Guess I'd rather it let water and moisture out.

I've had sod, rocks, wood chips in my bed and I couldn't see anything in there.

Probably a nothing burger.

Not just our trucks, the Rivian's flap can lift up and the same thing happens.....was mentioned in a video by JerryRigEverything.

I'm toying with cutting a piece of screen to fit the hole, to keep stuff out of mine, yet let water drain. Maybe 3-D Print a holder or glue to edge trim to allow it to be removed if necessary.

I was thinking some type of vent hole that could let moisture out, but keep the large stuff out. Once I get my truck, I need to make a mulch run.

I just checked my tailgate it is full of straw . A very good rust point my weep holes are full of a l

ittle of everything . Well time to clean out and seal up that hole​
