Yeah, I feel like this has to be a software bug. Two of my APIMs running the same software having the same issue while one running much much older software doesn’t have that issue at all?

Feel like I’d be better off buying a Mongoose and power supply and updating overnight using FDRS rather than trying to find another APIM.
Do you know more about the process of using FDRS to update Sync 4?

Curious because there is a variant of Sync 4 that’s for the 8inch displays. And a few APIMs on sale for the 8inch version. I assume harness wise it would be a similar approach without the splicing for extra screen power. Would those 8inch APIMs support features like surround sound and what not for B&O on Forscan?

Yea just buy the sync 4 apim that uses the 4pin screen connector and not the six everything else will carry over minus the secondary screen plug

Gonna give it a go since I had some unlucky issues with every 6pin connector variant I bought. Should be here in a week so fingers crossed. It would be nice to fix some of the audio bugs I have in Sync3 and gain wireless CarPlay for those shorter trips at least.

Just an update. 8inch APIM works almost flawlessly. The only issue I currently have is that turning up the volume works but the only issue screen volume value always shows 0. So it registers I’m turning the volume up or down and the audio does so accordingly, but the on screen value doesn’t change. Not sure how to fix that in Forscan but I’m otherwise very happy. I think this is a great alternative for those who don’t want to mess with their screen

I've had everything working nicely for months but FordPass app. I swapped my sync3 back and FP worked with no issues again, then reinstalled sync4 without luck. Has anyone solved this?

Did you hot swap it?

Yes, I did when I originally and later trying to get it to work. I was thinking maybe a Forscan setting was wrong. The sync3 would start to work again then the app would fail after swapping back to sync4.

Interesting . I've had no issues with mine and Ford pass. My programing is listed somewhere on this thread if you want to match it up and see if something is different

posted this on Facebook but wanted to join here to post it and try to put my thoughts down into somewhat of a install guide for everyone since that has been requested about a thousand times. i installed the sync4 apim and screen from a escape in the maverick the other day. this will be a parts and ROUGH install guide but it will point you all in the right direction, PROGRAMING is up to you. every truck is different. this requires a decent amount of forscan knowledge. and my install is on a lariat that already has the sync 3 system. if you have a xl or xlt there is a thread here on installing a sync4 apim to that truck and you can adapt the two to make it work for you if you want to

PXL_20240718_190146709.jpg

Onto the Install
You Will Need

1. Sync 4 Apim (the sync 4 apim comes in 4 flavors, 8in screen and 12+ screen, with or without navigation. you will obviously need the 12+, the 12+ is identifiable by the 6 pin screen connection the others are only 4 pin)
2. 23+ escape Screen Part No NX7T18B955LE
3. Screen to Apim Plug ML3Z14D202B
4. Power Plug 6U2Z14S411JB
5. Sync 3 pass though harness (i got one of the sync 3 camera adapter plugs on amazon)

i got some stuff from for others on ebay and have about 600 wrapped up in it all

41JhKv0JLJL._AC_UF1000,1000_QL80_.jpg

the pass though plug needs modified before install, you need to Completely remove pins 41/42 AND pins 53/54. you can use the removed pins to replace the rca plug and connect the camera back to passing though
C2383A.jpg

the power plug 6U2Z14S411JB will need pin 1 tapped into pin one of the pass though harness and pin 4 tapped into pin 37. this will provide power and ground to the additional connector of the screen.

PXL_20240717_202328395.jpg

on to the install.
the apim is located behind the hvac controls and the radio module. once the radio module is out there is a bracket holding the apim in with 3 7mm, remove that and swap the apim out for the 4. run your new screen plugs from the apim up to the screen.

PXL_20240718_183428776.jpg

the screen install is custom, i need to print a bracket for the mount to get rid of my snap-on spacer lol. i used one of the holes to mount the screen and its solid enough but will need to refining
PXL_20240718_190208158.jpg

the tray behind the new screen will need to be modified because the new mount is so high up now. i used a heat gun to massage the plastics out of the way.

plug everything in. the pass though harness is just that a pass though and it allows you to not modify your existing harness in the car. there are several plugs on the sync 4 apim that are not used so dont freak out about that. reinstall everything and you'll be ready for programing

i will try to respond here when i can but Facebook in the maverick groups is probable your best bet. hopefully this is helpful yo you guys

****Update**** if you are using the 13.2 in escape screen make sure you get a apim from the same model year 23 or newer. We have found that the older ones don't have the firmware for the screen installed because the screen wasn't introduced till 23. So for a example a 21 f150 apim will not display properly on the 23 escape screen
Did you ever find a solution for hiding the pegs with this size screen?

That’s what I used to adjust my programming of the apim.

If FordPass is the only thing that doesn’t work, I’m perfectly fine with that. The 12” screen is a massive improvement and Sync4 is leaps and bounds snappier software + wireless CarPlay/android auto than sync3.

Working on a bracket for the 12" screen as well as a plug n play harness for it from base model truck and from lariat trucks (already have that harness done). It'll probably be a month before I have harnesses in stock but the brackets hopefully will be this week or next! This will allow the factory plastics to clip in and will be making side pieces that clip into the factory trim to cover the gap between the dash and screen.

that is pretty damn cool, if you sell it all for a reasonable price I'm sure you'll have takers!
