Had an odd behavior with my hybrid Maverick the other day and wanted to see if I am the only one.

Where I park is a slow speed zone (30km/h) so when I get in the truck, I have a few hundred meters of electric running in the morning before I hit a small hill and the gas motor usually fires up when I am on the hill. I have noticed that when the gas motor fires up for the 1st time on a trip it usually runs about 3 minutes. I assume this is to charge the battery and get the engine warmed up.

What happened was I was sitting at the red light at the top of the hill with the gas engine running and the truck kept trying to lurch forward. Basically it felt like letting the clutch out on a stick shift car. I kept pressing the brake harder and harder to keep the truck from moving and it didn't move but it sure wanted to.

I chalked it up to a one off event but I am noticing it more and more these days. The first time I stop after the first time the gas engine is running, it seems like it is pulling against the brakes. After the first stop, it doesn't seem to do it, but then again the gas motor isn't usually running when I stop after that.

Anyone else seen this behavior?

Yes, this just happened to me last night. I also was able to keep the truck stopped, but it did want to move.

It seems to occur more on first drive of the day and seems more prevalent since the weather has gotten cooler, seems to disappear after I drive a few minutes...I thought I was the only one...I may try applying auto-hold and see if that helps...

I’ve been having this happen a lot when trying to lurch or creep forward. More often at lights, stop signs or trying to park in a space. It seems (in my opinion) as if there’s a hybrid braking pressure to collect energy back in and then another deeper pressure to completely stop the truck. Maybe someone more technical has a better idea of the changes happening.

Yeah, mine just started doing it. Weather got cooler here and that might be related. I have about 5,000km on it now.

Same same.

See if it fits this TSB (Search keyword: surge, then look at articles). Hope this helps.

Not new, this was discovered months ago.

Mine does it, but less as time passes. It use to do it on cold start up everyday. 8 months and 5K miles later, it still does it ...... about once every 2 weeks.
That thread is mostly about engine surge, sulfur smell, and the glowing cat issue. I am aware of that one but never had it. I believe the issue I am seeing is different.

Giddy up!

It's likely related to the brakes.
Not so much the engine.
There is a notice out about this,
Many threads talking about it
And a "software" update expected within about a month from Ford.

The mechanics of building a planetary transmission is quite simple. The engineering of controlling it, smoothly, quite complex.

Likely as torque transitions from charging to not charging it has to go somewhere else (wheel set) or go away. Doing this in a manner invisible to the human occupant is very, very difficult to do.

Did this get resolved? Ive got about 1100 miles on my 2023 and I drive about 4miles to the gym first thing. Ive noticed this at the stops regularly. Really, my only compliant besides the crazy sulfur smell that happened once in the garage. Seems to be related.

I never did anything about it and it hasn't happened as much lately. Really not driving the truck all that often though so it is hard to say.

Mine occasionally does this as well. Even with the auto hold, you can feel it trying to lurch forward.

Okay so I’m not crazy. This seems to only happen the first time I stop with the engine warming up. I use auto brake hold and it feels like a pulsing like the truck is rocking back and forth.

Ya, I get this as well. Always on the first few yards before I come to the stop sign at the end of my street. Very minor sensation, but enough to warrant keeping one's foot on the brake.

I notice the regen disengages and the brakes bite harder round 3mph which may be what youre talking about. I just assumed that was a hybrid thing that hasnt been worked out yet. Brakes are pretty touchy rolling to a stop. There was a software mitigation for that but its still there.

My issue is at a dead stop when the ICE is on. Its just a nudge forward like the ecvt pushed power to the wheels but the brakes stopped the truck from moving. I dont notice it when the ICE is off at a stop.
